04/11/2023 12:53 | Do you remember when the Pound was pegged to the pre-euro Ecu (XEU)? With the BoE tasked to defend it. Trouble is a known point of defence with finite resources invites a target. Cue Soros 'blowing up the Bank', a c18% base rate and so on. So in a roundabout way I think the buy-backs are better not being predictable and hence open to manipulation. Better keep the weak sellers on their toes. Let some natural buying get a look-in to set its own price. | jrphoenixw2
03/11/2023 18:40 | Interesting given buybacks may be circa 2m per day that yesterday the merchant bankers bought 5m helping to race the price up yet today when support was needed they only bought 70k worth. Interested to know why this strategy was adopted creating turbulenceWhy not the standard 2m yesterday & today I wonder? | the white house

02/11/2023 11:32 | Wind power takes £4.6b hit in the US. Orsted, the Danish energy group cancels projects off the coast of New Jersey. It also operated much of the North Sea's wind industry. It was now "taking measures to support its capital structure." Oh dear. The announcement came a day after BP disclosed a $540m writedown on its own US offshore wind projects after regulators in New York rejected a plea for higher prices to offset inflation. | blippy3

02/11/2023 09:37 | Disappointed with the declining dividend (in real terms). After all, it's not exactly stellar to begin with. Additionally, unless you're planning on selling, the buyback doesn't make a fig of difference.spud | spud

02/11/2023 08:17 | Better than BP so far. I'm a firm holder of Shell. Not unhappy with the buybacks or share price over the last few years. It's 2023, stop funding the BBC, you don't need them in your life. Do not renew your TV licence. Gla. | craftyale
02/11/2023 08:12 | Shell increased its third quarter profits as revenues were boosted by higher energy prices and as the company doubled down on its fossil fuel strategy. The oil giant said its adjusted earnings reached $6.2bn (£5.1bn) in the three months to September, up from $5.1bn (£4.2bn) in the previous three months. The result was only $24m (£19.7m) behind expectations, unlike BP which missed its forecast underlying replacement cost profit by around $700m (£575m), causing shares to plummet on Tuesday. The increase, which was largely in line with what analysts had expected, came as it enjoyed higher oil prices, better margins from Shell's refining business and more production from its upstream unit.Meanwhile, Shell's renewables business suffered a loss of $67m (£55m) as chief executive Wael Sawan seeks to scale back the company's investment in green energy in a bid to boost profits. The business announced it would buy back $3.5bn dollars (£2.9bn) of shares from investors over the next three months, an increase from $3bn in the previous period.Mr Sawan said: "Shell delivered another quarter of strong operational and financial performance, capturing opportunities in volatile commodity markets."... 02/11/2023 07:45 | No divi increase , more buybacks , they were quick enough to pull plug on divi and have been very tardy in restoration whilst happily potentially pouring funds down the toilet on buybacks . | holts |
