Car park spaces should become wider and burning electric cars dunked in baths of water, under proposed government guidelines to prevent battery fires spreading out of control.Ministers have been told that battery-powered vehicles pose a medley of risks in indoor car parks, which could render 1960s-era fire safety laws dangerously out of date.Areas of concern addressed in a government-commissioned report included explosions of flammable vapour clouds emitted by electric vehicle batteries, as well as jets of fire and toxic water run-off from firefighting. The report, from consultancy Arup, which makes a series of recommendations for changes to fire safety rules, said that there was a "high degree of uncertainty" about data on the fire risks of electric cars and that it is "not yet understood" whether their batteries become more of a fire hazard with age... Daily Telegraph.... More there.

Fwiw I think that at first the effects of, and reception by shareholders to the buybacks was muted at best, now the proverbial snowball is gaining mass and momentum and for those patient enough, this could be an absolute stonking investment decision, the relentless and persistent buybacks are very quickly turning into a positive driver for the share price and the accelerative effects are fast becoming apparent.
It’s like doing a slowed down and reversed version of the age old analogy of starting with a pound and every week making 10% on it and after a year you have made 150 times increase… (or one of the many similar derivatives of that example …) well for those with the attention span greater than a newt, this is a similar situation but in slow motion.
Luck to the patient, luck to the brave…..
PS this is pertinent to both BP & Shell so I will post to both boards

Notice how the pro buyback posters conveniently omit to mention the contribution that the rising price of oil has made to the share price!!!

Incorrect. Price is up a tenner since the buybacks started. Those that hold more than a handful (and less aim losing tiddlers) are more than happy that the relentless buying is sweeping aside all types of short term players and reducing by tens of thousands the number of punters who Shell need to pay a divvi to. Thus increasing future divvis for the remainers.Flywheel working v nicely for holders and even better for those that add rather than being sadly & bizarrely miserable at these high levels, maybe missing out?Happy days

SP may well be at a 5 year high but as adg already pointed out in post 4148 the market cap is not at a 5 year high - the influence of buy backs working I guess - although the asset mix on the books is for ever changing and also needs to be taken into account.

I like the idea of share buybacks it should advance the share price. But you have a very good point.

Hard Rain3 I'll tell you what Mr Hallmark[of Bentley] . If you are serious about Net Zero then wind up Bentley motors and sack all the employees. There is no justification for a 3 tonne land yacht powered from the mining efforts of the worlds poor who mine the lithium. And your interiors are covered in cow hides. So burnish your net zero bona fides properly and fold Bentley motors. No half measures in "saving the planet".You could of course leave this daft cult that will achieve very little and continue as you are.Driving a Bentley and claiming you're saving the planet is like claiming to be vegan whilst tucking into a 24oz T bone steak... You'll need to find problems with something bigger and better than Pierce if you want to talk down the share price!Yes it's an important portion of the UK business but it's a blip of sweet FA for the global business.
