Yep never a bad idea to take a profit
Fwiw I think She’ll has a long way to go
Just one point of note - the shell highest market cap was £220b in 2018 - it’s £170b now so has another 25% to go to get back to an all time high which would be around £33 ………;… ! I don’t think people tend to realise that and it’s a very important mistake and a huge difference in £ notes and could lead to missing out on further fortune
I’d be happy with Brent at $77 anyday

John Frankel15 HRS AGOEVs weigh more, have a shorter range and cost more than petrol/diesel cars. Why would anyone voluntarily buy a more expensive inferior product ?.... Daily Telegraph

I hold, but my brain is telling me it's time to sell. As a previous poster noted, SHEL is trading at near its highs. When I checked a few days ago, Dec 2024 WTI futures were $77, lower than current spot price, which is also falling. I wouldn't blame anyone for deciding that now is the time to bank a profit.

EV is a man made dinosaur.Just may be really useful if every vehicle had a brick sized nuclear power pack.Rolls Royce maybe. But this EV is a dinosaur.

Expecting a pencil note/flash Q figures in next day or so. Should be decent reading with Oil average 80 range for Q and also Gas looking better going forward at over 3. Will give a guide as to buyback potential announced Nov 2 (hope 3 or 4m to drive things higher)

Poor call then. Imperial and Aviva are both down in last year with Shell up a couple of quid.

I'll be more than upset if the dividend doesn't get at least a 10% uplift. Of all the dividend stocks I hold, it is way and beyond the poorest payer although I have reduced (and reallocated) from 6500 to 4000 over the past 12 months.

It's not as if they can't afford to.

The hardest decision is to sell. If someone bought at sub 10 a few years ago and held until now, they will be sitting on a huge profit. Are you saying never take a profit just, because its shell? Shell does not only go up and could easily go down significantly from this quite high (historically) position. Shel is also not the dividend powerhouse it used to be (admittedly, it is powering up again now).

i have sold some of my shel shares thinking they are near the top. Looking at the historical charts they haven't got.much more to go. Also the divi is not great. If it goes up a bit more so be it but i am happy to take some chips off the table here.

John Lewis has stopped offering insurance to electric car drivers amid fears over the cost of repairs. The department store's lending business John Lewis Financial Services has put a temporary pause on customers taking out cover or renewing existing policies on battery-power vehicles while its underwriter, Covéa, analyses risks and costs.Insurers are facing rising costs for vehicle repairs, which are eating into profits. According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), vehicle repair costs rose 33pc over the first quarter of 2023 compared to 2022, helping to push annual premiums to record highs. ... Britain's biggest motorway service station provider has brought in marshals to police "charge rage" among electric vehicle drivers battling for access to plug-in points.Moto chief executive Ken McMeikan warned the UK's motorway service stations are facing growing "public disorder" due to a lack of grid connections preventing him from installing enough car chargers to meet the surge in demand. It means many motorists are facing long waits, with angry drivers confronting staff and each other over the lack of charging facilities.Mr McMeikan said the delays made drivers "very angry and stressed" and warned of the growing risk of "charge rage" on Britain's motorways. He said: "People need to drive their EV cars around without range anxiety, without long queues and without public disorder but at peak seasonal times we are experiencing all this now."... So where next? All going well and according to plan.
I am 100% certain that there will be many bumps and humps and no doubt some scamtastic orchestrated scaremongering headlines to test us (all quickly forgotten)
So I will stick my neck out and reiterate my personal longer term targets of £27 to £29 this year and breaking that £30 barrier & achieve early and possibly even the mid £30’s next year.
I am far too long BP & Shell and will have to reduce percentage holdings at some point but just now I simply see no reason to sell……… where better would I put my money if I did sell ?
