I'd guess the pensions regulator will require some of that to be earmarked for the pension deficit.

Sale of Megalon announced today, for £17.75m cash (less tax and expenses). As far as I can see, Scapa had debt of £13.2m (160% gearing) at the March year end. This should wipe that out completely and perhaps leave net cash (depending on the level of tax and expenses).

This sure will be an all-nighter.Very early days and director buys ,excellent new investors who will accumulate a large holding ,then carry out their own stategic review .Funny last Friday PPs were Knocking each other down and paying up to 30p to get their hands on some shares. This is a brilliant chance to top up with Hanover and shoot north,DYOR.

Hello All

Well, I steamed in today, even after the strong run.

I'm really annoyed with myself, I've thought SCPA looked really interesting for about a year but the final catalyst for me was finding out that Edward Branson & Sherborne/Hanover are involved.

Why am I annoyed? Because I only found that out today while reading this board! What an idiot, the news has been out since June!

However putting my final catalyst aside, I had thought this business looked interesting as:
There is a good underlying business at SCPA, it's just the business became bloated by poor performing acquisitions around the turn of the millennium. I think the core business can be fixed.
Potential asbestos liability & pension deficit, obviously both huge issues but both seem manageable. We have proof regarding the asbestos, given the agreement with the insurers. The pension issue remains outstanding but I agree with comments above that this issue is likely to be resolved as it has been at other companies with big deficits.
Director buying – always a good sign

Late to the party but I think this party might prove to be an all-nighter!

In 1996, they didn't have a £63m pension deficit as a millstone around their neck!

Quite right, Cambo. The old thread was looking a bit sad, and Jitters must have scarpered long ago. Had a small punt on these this afternoon, in fact all of today's trades appear to be my buys (30k shares). It does make one feel a bit isolated, being the entire market.
