Coming back to Dragon's on LSE. I'm probably catching up, but I thought it would be interesting anyway to summarise all 3 projects in that PDF - ". . . the VTF has provided funding to accelerate and expand the UK’s ability to manufacture a range of vaccines at three sites VMIC (Harwell); CGTC (Braintree); Valneva (Livingston). These sites will now form the core UK vaccine manufacturing capability for the future."

Harwell - “What we didn't want to do was make a facility that would be great for making the AstraZeneca vaccine, for example, but then next year a different MERS [Middle East Respiratory Syndrome] or SARS [Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome] comes along.” he added. “That's a different type of platform and a different vaccine. So we've got to have a flexible facility that is able to make in an emergency a large amount of doses from different types of processes.” "

Braintree - "The CGT Catapult Manufacturing Innovation Centre, due to become fully operational by December 2021, is being developed following a £100m commitment by the Government to support the national effort to manufacture millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine, become an innovation centre for cell and gene therapies supporting the growth of this expanding industry, continue to promote innovation and develop technology transfer expertise for vaccines and large-scale cell and gene therapy manufacture."

Livingston - "Valneva is just ‘days away’ from kick-starting manufacture of its jab on British soil. Britain has secured supply of 60m doses at a cost of €470 million (£418 million). French-headquartered firm’s jab is second-largest Covid jab ordered by Govt. It will furnish Britain with 60 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine."

IMHO this is highly impressive and just this once - well done the UK Govt ! Three hopefully 'State of the Art' facilities to put the UK at the crest of the vaccine wave? We'll see.

Inan,

I'm reading it in the context of your post. So you mean there is no pressing need for the Scancell vaccine in Thailand?

Only watched it once .... and when he said T cells "repair" viral infected cells .. then i thought mmmmmmmm hence I checked out if he is a Dr .. and he turned out to be a Nurse.

he explains it well .......... up to Rats if he wants to trust what he is watching

but why should I apologise ?? ... I didn't make the mistake

and I certainly would not act as his "Promotions" manager

I have called into question many experts indeed you have seen me do it on the BB and I proved my case ... resulting in changes of position.

Hi Bermuda - your 35995 - " . . . if there is any way of protecting the EXTREMELY elderly/frail from a covid death, I believe we should. Edited to add that of course, if it transpires that these vaccines cause serious ae's in these patients then I agree, it's a different matter."

These reports from Norway qualify as 'serious ae's' of course. Therefore as in your edit, it's a different matter and some people in frailest condition, should not be given the vaccine ?

Inn - don't read the LSE board you won't like it. Some strange Dr John Campbell is being hailed as the best unbiased source of information on the crisis over the long term.

Nurse Practitioner and all that, surely not.

Although you probably won't (but have been occasionally surprised) a gracious apology would probably be the thing most people would post as a response to this.

EE not at all .......

no pressing health need for MMR ......

but i would vaccinate my kids . I did

so if you want to support ridiculous statements then fair enough

but it kind "Kills" the idea of the preventative vaccine

why are you even here ?? .. no pressing need for Scancell vaccine at the moment

Just imagine, what a 'tiresome ordeal' it must have been, for anyone having the misfortune to make the error of booking-in to / spending time, in that "Hotel".
Enough to 'put-one-off-travel' for life.

Obviously, inanaco, in my response to TF I am distinguishing between a health need and an economic need. There is no pressing health need to vaccinate Thailand - but there is an economic need if they want to resume tourist inflows from countries that have vaccinated. If the UK has vaccinated with good takeup by the summer, it seems probable that airbridge reciprocity will be established with other vaccine-protected countries. Others will have to quarantine. A quarantine in both directions will add three weeks to holidays of all lengths, so countries which vaccinate instead of requiring quarantine will attract many more tourists than those that still require quarantine. In other news, I've heard of two people getting Covid after the Pfizer jab: 37 year old nurse got it 2 days later and a 75 year old 10 days later.....which just confirms protection takes time to be developed.

Berm - yep there's said to be a minimum period of 3 weeks before the vaccine(s) have an effect & perhaps more worrying is the link between compromised efficacy & alcohol consumption. (Three days prior to jab & a few weeks after - ouch).

For one BoB of course they know, im pretty sure if all of those had tested positive had not received the vaccine they would of said so. Maybe its a case that immunity takes longer in the elderly, or they was just unlucky to catch the virus a week after vaccination

Smiler,

Slightly different article here which confirms that they didn't yet know whether any of those who have been vaccinated had contracted covid.

'It's not known if any of those given the Pfizer jab have contracted the infection, however the family of the first person receive it say the 90-year-old is not among the new cases.'

Would be really interesting to know the results of any investigations, whether there were any infections in the vaccinated group and if so how long after they were vaccinated.
