It will probably go higher, BUT- there is not getting awat from the fact that this business will eat up a tonn of cash to increase sales, capex is set to grow significantly over the coming years, and with incoming inflation the business will eat up more and more cash to grow, for that reason I SOLD. Yes, it was always a cigar butt, and it still is a cigar butt

Forward guidance was off putting.
reading between the lines there were some worrying comments.

Have they caved in to the unions on all front and lumbered themselves with massive overheads that will be difficult to absorb when ex covid life gets tougher?

That's me out.

We run multiple online retail channels (mainly clothing, cosmetics, hardware, and tools) which are a real bellwether for us; we saw the lockdown bonanza long before it started being reported by the press.

Well Christmas was disappointing, and then the decline accelerated up until 2 weeks ago. So there's been a slight improvement these last 2 weeks, but it's not going to save this period from being worse than even pre-pandemic.

Happy to have ridden the wave, but sold today expecting the results commentary to mention current trading conditions. Will likely reinvest at a much later date. Good luck everyone.

Can see this rising before Thursday's news. Little surprised not more today as in many of the weekend papers.

charlie9038 - 1) IQE bears no relation whatsoever to Royal Mail, so comparing the relative recent share price performance of the two is totally irrelevant IMHO. I only speak from experience of our own company’s dealings with Royal Mail, which became increasingly poor on both service & price. To the extent that we moved elsewhere, paying less for what’s - currently - a far better service with slicker back office tools. 2) I don’t hold Royal Mail shares, though I did buy in when they first floated, selling out several years ago at slightly above the price they are now. I’ve no intention of buying back in, but thought our commercial experience of the company might be of interest to other holders. 3) I don’t deramp IQE. Why would I when I’ve a decent holding already and have repeatedly stated I won’t be increasing it? I just use facts to counterbalance some of the more fanciful holders’ views.

The money is in the parcel business, we are going to see more retail businesses open up in a couple of weeks, thus one would expect that more things will be purchased directly and the parcel business for all players to fall back a little bit. RMG is not in my experience the most efficient operator, I would expect it's competitors to respond more effectively if business tightens up a bit. If I had £5bn in my back pocket I think I could find something of better value than RMG to spend it on.
