"If it's important that your parcel arrives within 2 days then send it special delivery"

Thanks for the blindingly obvious.

Royal Mail Tracked 48
End-to-end tracking for peace of mind Royal Mail Tracked 48. Get your letter or parcel delivered within two to three working days

Most of the time whilst it was awol there was no tracking information at all.

Royal mail are useless.

As alluded to earlier, USO is a benefit as well as a cost and probably needs refinement for the modern age.

These delays, failures to provide tracking numbers etc just ceeates more unnecessary costs and work. Ironically it only hastens the job losses rather than preserves them.

Agreed about GLS - from an investment pov that was a free add-on when rmg shares where in the sub 200p.

In all honest the fact that RM have to operate under the USO obligation is a milestone around the company's neck. There is no real value in the UK operation as it stands at present. Other than the property portfolio and the brand name. Most of the share value is in GLS. Which is what our major European investor is after of that I have no doubt.

tubbs - is there a forum where one can talk about investment in traffic warding companies? i'll happily join that one.

i wont, and let me explain:

I origionally invested in RMG on the thesis that there's value in going to everyone's house - not just to deliver mail, but also to be a part of the local community and check on the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society, delivering medication etc. This is something you can't automate, so focus on that.

Unfortunately, in many areas the postal works are miserable, refuse to say hi, or even indicate appreciativeness when you give way to their little red vans. I am sorry if they feel insecure about their jobs, covid etc, but the pandemic and the spectre of joblessness isn't just confined to the mailing centers you know. Not everyone was given a huge amount of shares or golden plated pensions etc. The world has moved on.

Finally, and this relates to internet research for every delivery service is that it gets polluted by complaints by users, and everyone is a customer who may have experienced delays or another, which can be very very frustrating from a customer's point of view (Gecko above has been remarkbly sanguine about it and i applaud that). Posters on this forum sometimes loose sight of the fact this forum is about shares.

Personally, I would be happy if the gas bill gets delayed in the post but it never does. what does get delayed is the (hypothetical) missing piece, that i've ordered at great expense, to complete the (hypothetical) puzzle that i have been working on for the last decade. Highly infuriating. This is only a hypothetical example, but when you order something first class, you hope to get it by the end of the week - it could be a cable for your TV for example etc The customer is then at a loss wether to wait another 2 weeks for the cable, or to buy another one and end up with two - just because his postie put a parcel in the wrong slot, as he has just found out he's being cheated on by his wife, with someone with a more dynamic outlook on life etc

Careful encarter, you will be accused of being on a moral crusader..... probably by someone who was accosted by 2 parking wardens.

Probably.... have you asked RM? If so, what did they say?

RM have casual staff working for them this time of year and even more than usual due to the increase mail volume. Many of whom have never worked in the UK before or have never worked at all before. They are short of space and equipment due to social distancing rules and the extra volume. Mistakes are bound to be made.If it's important that your parcel arrives within 2 days then send it special delivery. Also postie's are taking extra risks especially in mail centres when they might be sharing a building with a thousand other people, some have died with the rest risking taking covid home to their families.

Do Royal Mail have a policy of sacking incompetent c*nts who take 10 days to get a parcel to its destination instead of 2-3 because they send it to another depot incorrectly and then it disappears for 4 days(with no tracking information at all???)

All this despite there being a tracking code!!!!

No thought not.

Wow thanks...... free legal advise from someone who accuses others of fraudulently claiming overtime without providing a shred of evidence.... how lucky I am.Perhaps you should get in touch with Royal Mail. They have a policy of not only sacking but also prosecuting people for fraudulently claiming overtime...... I'm sure they will be happy to hear from you.

tubbs64 - i have scanned through your posts: aside from your own moral crusade, you need to be careful of passing on insider information - that's free legal advice and IANAL. it has been given through a forum so buyer beware.

its my own fault for not using a customer complaints forum.

OIHIT - without reading the full article, i cannot comment, perhaps they were of those lights that could cause night blindness? :s

one risks one's life every time they step out their door, its not an excuse to be rude though.

making false allegations on an internet forum isn't particularly clever either.

I don't think it is very clever to slander people who are putting their health at risk to deliver your parcels to you.

that's true, they probably passed it around amongst themselves to earn a bit of overtime during these testing times.

Arbus,

Count your blessings. At least they didnt take 11 days to get a parcel to you that should have taken only 2-3 days max!!!!

having to drop off some parcels at the local depot / post office yesterday using some pre-paid, printed stamps---i might as well have been carrying a corpse - i have never seen such frightened and un-cooperative jobsworths in my life.

they were loading their vans on double yellow lines, yet i was being harangued by two jobsworth traffic wardens - having being told to go from pillar to post. i'll just use the at home pickup service for 70p, rather than pay that in fuel and risk a parking violation (free parking for up 2 hours - successful drop off not guaranteed within that time).

the senior management have my sympathy - ive already sold off my shares so this view is not purely from a shareholder POV.

Nice to see Royal Mail back over the OFS price, with (hopefully) more to come.

Good luck everyone, Sid.

Been buying RMG from £4 all through the down trend, nicely in the money now. Looking to exit @£4 - if it makes it, or hold if dividends get resumed.
ps - keep taking the C19 tests and shopping online everyone.
