The one possible may that Boris may get the EU to tinker with the fine detail, especially the Irish border issue, is by doing what he wants to do, namely cancelling Theresa May's immigration policy and granting free movement to EU citizens subject to a requirement of registration after 3 months residence.

A procedure which would require EU citizens to demonstrate that they have a legitimate basis for seeking residence in the UK and have both the financial means to support themselves and health insurance either because they are in employment and pay UK national insurance or have private health insurance.

No, this country is not going to get it in spades, it has already had it.

Which is why I posted a few days ago that a deal is highly improbable and a GE in Q4 inevitable.

When you read this - from the BBC this afternoon - you have to wonder how long it will take before Boris & Co admit that the country can leave by Halloween ONLY on a no deal basis. At which point, there will probably be a vote of no confidence in Parliament, leading to a mid-winter GE and an extension from Brussels. What develops from that, is anybody's guess at this stage.

BBC: Varadkar's message for future PM

In Brussels, Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says he is looking forward to meeting whoever the new British PM turns out to be.

But he repeats the EU's message that the withdrawal agreement negotiated with Theresa May's government is not up for renegotiation.

He says the non-binding "political declaration", on the shape of the EU and UK's post-Brexit relations, could be amended.

But he says his discussions with the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier earlier today confirmed: "There will be European unity, that negotiations can only happen between the EU and UK in the EU - we're not going to allow negotiations to be moved to an inter-government level in any way."

As is known I am not a fanboy of Brexit, but this headline bemused me ...

"Philip Hammond to warn that no-deal Brexit will drain over £26bn of the UK's economy"

Is all the fuss about crashing out about some 50% of the sum Gordon Brown piled into rescue the banks 11 years ago?

To put that piffling amount in context the annual cost of the NHS is currently £125Bn.

The dog whistles may change but they are unrealistic. Given the limited time available it is highly improbable that the UK will be able to leave the EU on 31 October with a deal which enjoys the support of the HoC.

....

The indépendant Newspaper ...

As he came under pressure on his plans, Mr Johnson downgraded the higher-rate threshold hike to an “ambition̶1; which was open to “debate”. And he announced that he also wanted to help the low paid by lifting the level at which they start to pay national insurance.

He stuck to his position that the UK must leave the European Union by 31 October, warning of “catastrophic” consequences for voter trust in politics if the Conservative government “kicked the can down the road” again.

But he repeatedly stressed that he did not want a “disorderly221; no-deal Brexit, and told one member of the public who voiced fears for her family’s jobs: “We are going to make sure that we come out on terms that protect the UK and protect the EU as well.”

Conservative party members would happily support the break-up of the UK, “significant damage” to the British economy and even the destruction of their own party in order to secure Brexit, a poll has found.

The study by YouGov found that the governing party’s membership, now thought to number just over 100,000 people, will single-mindedly stop at almost nothing to take Britain out of the EU.

Ahead of the MP vote, ConHome has a new poll of 1,600 members:

BJ 54.8%
RS 16.3
DR 9.6
MG 7.1
JH 5.8
SJ 5.5

At this point, only the numbers at 6pm matter!

Neil Wilson, analyst at markets.com, says the central bank governor is now in “full dove mode”.

He adds:

The towel has been thrown in. Building on the last ECB meeting, at which some members discussed reopening quantitative easing, this looks like a clear signal that the central bank is preparing markets to expect monetary policy to become more accommodative this year.

The Sun:

Boris Johnson’s allies plan to rig the leadership contest by ‘lending’; votes to rival Jeremy Hunt, claim senior Tories.

In an extraordinary allegation, senior Tories told The Sun that MPs on Boris’ books were desperate for their man to face off against the struggling Foreign Secretary – to avoid Michael Gove.

Yea there is a huge chance of that happening after the 31st Oct, but you never know they might make a good deal from it all.I would really prefer the governments holding to get below 50% in case Corbyn gets involved.
