The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS Group) has reached a final settlement with the National Credit Union Administration Board to resolve two outstanding civil lawsuits for US$ 1.1 billion (GBP846 million). The settlements, involving its subsidiary RBS Securities Inc., relate to the two residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) cases (asserting claims on behalf of US Central Federal Credit Union and Western Corporate Federal Credit Union), most recently disclosed in RBS's 2016 Interim Results Announcement ("2016 Interim Results"). The settlement amount is substantially covered by existing provisions as of 30 June 2016 and will have no material impact on the RBS Group's CET1 ratio.

which was all legalised by the US SEC raising the net capital rule allowing 12x more leverage than before. its f'ing scandalous that these fines now threaten economies, there were probably under 100 people per bank who caused this, who faced no fines and no jail. they probably just work at a different bank now.

the Americans have fined DB for dealing in American MBS products.
They were rated by American rating agencies.
And people expect Angela Merkel to effectively pay this outrageous stealth tax.

Commentary in the Guardian

Royal Bank of Scotland actually surpassed Deutsche Bank’s morning drop, percentage-wise at least, with investors fearful that the same kind of fine could hit RBS when its settlement with the US Department of Justice is finally revealed.

Are RBS really as bad as DB??I guess the level of fine will provide some clarity.I read that this wasn't even being addressed until 2017 by the US?
