28/2/2022 07:45 | Just stating a fact, the only nuclear bomb ever dropped was by US, killing hundred of thousands of civilians. | montyhedge
28/2/2022 07:38 | Specto It's just silly if one side's explanations for illegal military action are automatically valid and the other's are not. Bombing Serbia was every bit as illegal as invading Ukraine. The law is the law, and if you make an exception for one side the whole edifice collapses. But that is beside the point. It doesn't matter what you or I think. Russia feels threatened by NATO. Stalin felt threatened by the USA therefore we had the iron curtain for 40-odd years. Khrushchev felt threatened by Kennedy's missiles in Turkey. Kennedy felt threatened by Khrushchev's missiles in Cuba. The USA even claims it feels threatened by Iran, at least that is its justification for the missile bases in Poland and Romania. | zangdook

28/2/2022 02:31 | Let's hope Monday's talks lead to at least a ceasefire. | kenny
28/2/2022 02:03 | I hope the EU will think carefully before trying to freeze any country's central bank assets. The arbitrary nature of their outrage, treating international law as optional (no worries if NATO attacks Serbia or Libya* or if the US and UK attack Iraq, fall off your horse if Russia does anything) means that no country can be sure that its assets are safe abroad. It's bad enough that the UK refused to return Venezuela's gold. Ultimately this could cause the entire international financial system to seize up. Just recently we've seen Biden give half of the Afghan central bank's assets to 9/11 families. Whatever next? And that is disregarding the fact that Russia has done this because it feels cornered and the only sane way to react is to de-escalate. *Yes, I know limited action was authorised in Libya, but the limits were not respected any more than they were with George Floyd. | zangdook
27/2/2022 23:34 | Monty, your nuclear analogy is apples and oranges | uncle_sam
27/2/2022 19:51 | EU have finally stood up, and hats off to them. 4 days in, but better late than never. Russia is uninvestable. BP is divesting Rosneft stake - good luck finding a buyer for that. Can the Rubble be supported without access to Central Bank cash abroad? | spectoacc |
