ElC good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that, sadly, you are not always right. The good news is that I do know someone who IS always right. Shall I see if I can get her to have a word with you????

Chucko...I agree, 9.5% short prior to the first ‘trading ahead of epxeactions’ comment on October 23rd. I believe that they felt that with low volatility the new regs would have more of an impact. Since then and including that statement we have had 3 trading ahead of expectations statements

There is a huge difference: Odey rebalance and take a profit (given a targeted 10% at all times) whereas the HF rebalances to cap the loss (risk management). The risk/reward of longs and shorts is far from symmetrical.

It’s really difficult running shorts on volatile stocks with especially volatile earnings and few can do it. It requires total conviction. Herbalife is a salutary lesson in what happens when it goes wrong, and the guy who got it wrong was one of the most celebrated names. So far as I can tell, none of the 13 funds shorting this have especially large positions and so I think they can run this a long time. Nevertheless, the vast majority of the shorting was around the time of the August trading statement, so I view this as unrelated to anything “big”. It was all to do with its valuation in the light of the ESMA beating they thought PLUS could take.

I agree with the previous posts - they (HFs and lazy analysts) totally misunderstood the situation and this has much further to play out.

So shorts who are losing money -even though they know a rumour close their positions.....

and this is supposed to be the same as longs who are making a pile of money closing a small part of their positions ....
as some sort of housekeeping exercise....

Of course Longs making a packet do have to take some of the gains off the table from time to time - to balance the weightings of any stocks in their portfolio.

So if you invest 5% of your fund in a stock that doubles it becomes 9.5% of your portfolio ( all other things being equal) the the allocation rules come in and they sell some....

That is not the same as buying back failed shorts

Rifelshot, the reason for my bearishness was the too many Red flags that have arisen since their IPO! Many been highlighted on this board & Media articles from FT.com, Comments on FT Alphaville & Cablecars dossier etc.
If someone can get a list of Plus500 active and/Or non-active affiliate partners I will share some of my findings on this board. It might just possibly save you a lot of money.

EL Capital I wasn't being sarcastic, I respect your position. As I do Technovator, Doomongor. What is your view on why the shorts would reduce (even a little bit) if their position is based on some secret info that sinks the business?

Can you please also ask Technovator and Doomonger the same question. I'm especially interested in Doomongers views?

Really? They are running large funds. They have to make changes now and again. Odey does the same. If theyre so sure why do they reduce? Timescale of this is the question, not if it will happen or not. could be today could be a year until it is found out. I have a suspicion it will be very soon. Then....everyone will say im filtered...as they cry into their ribena
