The negative impact of ESMA regulatory changes on spread-betting firms’ continental European revenue is worse than expected, Peel Hunt writes in note, citing latest trading updates from CMC Markets and IG Group.
• Downgrades IG’s FY 2019 forecasts by 5%; CMC’s FY 2020 and 2021 forecasts by 10%
o Keeps buys on IG (PT 775p) and CMC (cuts PT to 185p from 200p)
• However, raises Plus500 to add from hold, PT to 1,650p from 1,500p
o Broker underestimated bullish management commentary in December, as well as pick up in volatility, analysts Anthony Da Costa and Stuart Duncan write in note
o Upgrades Plus500 FY 2018 pretax profit/EPS estimates by 8%, revenue by 4%
