The secrecy around who owns and controls microgaming has been a concern fora long time. So, if it is them who have slashed their costs then why now? Why not continue with the status quo where they all make money?https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/the-secrecy-of-microgaming.43502/

That would be the impediment to entry into the US via acquisition I'd think so not too far to go before he's unwound the rest of it. He is clearly a seller in any of his businesses at the moment.

I think it important to get a feel for the competition whenever I take a stake in a company. When I invested in Playtech many years ago perhaps I didn’t feel it important.

I had never heard of Microgaming before today but on further investigation see it as a real global competitor to Playtech worldwide. Microgaming.co.uk. It isn’t going to go away.

Wish it was listed!!!!

bor491, it was made clear a few years ago that PTEC was unwelcome in the USA. This was by way if their 10% holding in Sportech and joint directors on the Sportech board. The US regulators would not approve the Sportech acquisition of a relatively small US operation until PTEC separated. I doubt that the USA has softened its stance in recent years but PTEC has not tested this with a soft acquisition.

Just a bit more on China competitors

Genesis Gaming is a US company that looks to major on poker.

Microgaming is a IoM company and iSoftBet U.K./Luxembourg

Microgaming is interesting, with a big client list. From Wikipedia

“Microgaming Software Systems Ltd is a privately held Isle of Man based software development company which claims to have released the first genuine online casino in 1994.[1][2] The company is one of the leading software providers to the online gambling industry. Online casino operators such as the Carmen Media Group, Fortune Lounge Group, 32Red, and the Palace Group are among those who use Microgaming's software.

The standard online casino powered by Microgaming has over six hundred games including slots, video poker, blackjack and roulette. Microgaming provides its casino games in download or Flash versions, in recent times there has been a shift to releasing games in HTML5 to ensure cross-platform compatibility. The company offers a number of progressive jackpots through their interlinked network of casino operators. Some of these games are developed by Derivco, a South African-based game development studio.

Microgaming runs an online poker network, known as The MPN. It was formerly known as Prima Poker or the Microgaming Poker Network. Its software allows players to play multiplayer poker games such as Texas hold 'em and five and seven card stud poker against real people in real-time. The MPN was the first online poker network to offer Anonymous Tables, an attempt to make player tracking tools ineffective.[3] In November 2013, the network became among the first to offer a fully integrated achievement system.

Website is Microgaming.co.uk and it says it has 700+ clients worldwide.

they need to penetrate the USA, once they get a good footing there it opens all kinds of possibilities.

This is for me now a buy. It is not strictly comparable to a bookmaker obviously but the sector moves to some extent in tandem and it now feels undervalued to me

Lonhro, we don't compare with Paddy Power as we are not a bookmaker. GVC is now both a software supplier to others and a bookmaker. PTEC hinged its future growth on fintech and we seem to have disappointed there after regulatory disapproval on takeovers.

I don’t think it will be for a while. I should have got out earlier. I topped up on the previous fall which was a mistake.

Times today gives the following

Competitors in China include Genesis Gaming, Microgaming, and iSoftBet.

Also, most recent figures were Asia is 39% of revenue with Malaysia 5% and China 34%. Since the Malaysia clampdown led to a big drop, and China, by these figures is 7x larger my concerns I think are justified.

As I said before I cashed out at 776p in both my ISA and SIPP. I LIKE Playtech and will reinvest when things are much clearer but at present can’t see any good news in the offing. I agree with MS that earning visibility is very poor.

I tend to think they are on the back foot and any tactics will be countered by competitors.

MS’s reduction of target price from 1100 to 650 says it all.

Do you have today’s Deutsche Bank target price. Numis is down from 1125 to 882.
