So this should push the turnover to over 5m with profits of 750,000 with still 700000 or so on the balance sheet for further acquisitions and a market cap of just over 5m.

Well Im sticking around for the rewards. What a lovely little group of companies.

Looks a good move to me will add another £100,000 ++ to profits.

Hygiene consultancy to hospitals has got to be a growth area !!!

IH is a well-respected and established food safety and hygiene consultancy, with many hospitals, schools and hotels amongst its client base. The company also offers general health and safety consultancy and training. Turnover in the six months to 30 June 2007 was £196,000, generating pre-tax profits of £56,000 (unaudited).

Yes egoi I think they are a victim of city short termism, unless they have hit the skids in the last month or so. We will see!!

For instance here is an example ALS Adamson winning Asbestos Analysis contract that runs from Jan 2007 to 2011 and with the Government's housing green paper there will be more and more of this work.

Also RSA are advertising for quite a few jobs in the Midlands for pollution, heath and safety and housing, so the new Raunds office is doing its job.

And Envex have cources running every month into Dec for Management of Risk and Uncertainty.

So Im relaxed, I think !!!!

Ex-div today, looks like someone has used it to clear off. Agree with Walker but can see where Gilston and big Fella coming from; staff costs high and balance sheet has a lot of goodwill, but, that said, shares surely too cheap.

Popped up ion my value radar again today, watching with interest. They give a fair number of trading updates, so one not too far away maybe as results were a while ago.

Acquisition would help if earnings enhancing early.

I am trying to arrange to go.

Regarding figs

Turnover up approx 25% from last year.
Cost of sales up approx 29% from last year.
Profit up approx 53% from last year.

Average number of employees during the year was 72 from 61 last year,a 19% increase.

That suggest to me that they are getting a very good return on work carried out. And sweating those employees.

Staff costs of £2.934k [ including "sub contractors" at £666k ] take up 63% of turnover with admin costs of £1.584k on top. A note in the annual report at p.7 under "Personnel" states they are having to pay more to get the right people as there is a shortage of suitably qualified staff.

The margins suggest they are finding it difficult to pass on the higher staff costs to their customers, many of whom are in in the public sector.

It all now depends, surely, on how they spend the c.£1.5m. cash in hand? PHSC needs to acquire a decent earnings-enhancing business & has the ability to be a very choosy buyer if it is prepared to be patient.

Anyone going to the AGM on 13th Sept? I cannot make it unfortunately & it would be useful to hear back from anyone who can attend.

They should have stayed on PLUS:

Big fish in small pool as opposed to small fish in an ocean.
Reduce overheads.

Last time I looked they had a fair amount of goodwill on the balance sheet that may need writing down so could effect headline numbers short term. Otherwise looks a solid investment. I used to be a largish holder but sold shares back to the company last year as I was frustrated with the lack of progress in the share price.

Warning for employers over health and safety risks of flood clean-up
30 July 2007
news item
Flood-affected companies whose staff get involved in cleaning-up their business premises must consider very carefully all the potential health and safety risks before any work begins, even if this means slowing down the process, says City law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP (RPC).

Launching the latest work related fatal injury statistics today Health and Safety Commission (HSC) Chair Sir Bill Callaghan said the loss of 241 lives is unacceptable and issued a fresh challenge to industry to place safety at the top of its priorities and do more to protect the work force.

HSE Chief Executive Geoffrey Podger added to this message saying, "Those who are putting the lives of their workforce at risk should know that HSE takes this very seriously. In the past year we have approved 25% more prosecutions than the year before and our inspectors have served 1000 more enforcement notices. No one should believe that they can get away with serious breaches of health and safety."
