A bit late to the posting of a full stop.

I had previously read, that the reason was, that if you had removed a post you subsequently thought was wrong or had second thoughts about, that if you left it blank, the original post remained in the system somewhere but if you replaced it with a full stop, that overwrote the original post so the original post completely disappeared.

No doubt some of the IT experts will know if that is true or just an old wives tale but I suspect quite a few people err on the side of caution and use a full stop to replace the post they were removing.

For me - its always been to remove a post made in error or a duplicate.

I thought a dot was a symbol for an angry finger on the keyboard when you’re too frustrated to type anything ;-)

So everyone else has to suffer the thread has a "post" marked as unread, which is just a dot , instead.
Very public spirited of you.

Nice one Skinny, but, I'm teetotal these days, 6 years now :)

Mike, the reason is to clear posts that are posted by people I have filtered, otherwise it is marked as unread.

wllm :)

Another reason is to bump the thread to the top of the forum posts list, for whatever motive.

MC

It can be many things...

Clearing a spam post that ADVFN has removed, which stops it showing as being "unread" in your favourites list.

A mistaken post for whatever reason(even having second thoughts about what you posted and decide to remove it, you need to post something when you edit, so a full stop is as good as anything

Sometimes the system posts duplicates and, again, it's the easiest way to get rid of it

I'm sure there are other reasons too

wllm, a question if I may. I often see a post with one full-stop as your #6294 appears. Why?

That said, I gleaned more from the . than from post #6293. Perhaps Ricardo will get the idea sometime soon.

I suppose I’m also one of the greedy shareholders milking obscene company profits for dividends for my pension.

Bit like left wing, capitalism is evil, teachers and other public service employees, who complain about company profits and greedy shareholders.

Either that’s ignorant or hypocrisy or both.

According to latest government guidelines if you have investments and shares you are already rich 💰

Inflation numbers out tomorrow. Expecting back above 2% and influence the next narrative from interest rates & BoE. Factor influencing pensions funds for last few years. A lot of patience is needed waiting for a slow march down on rates GLA

I would hope so having been on the end of the fundraise by HBOS before they were taken over by Lloyds at the behest of the then labour government.

There are still questions to be answered and I think there is talk of an ongoing investigation unless it is swept under the carpet.

The Lloyds shareholders are still suffering from that decision.

That's my piece said

Good luck everyone
