For growth, they need to stop piling taxes on businesses and working people for starters. Europe is doing no better and in particular Germany is shedding jobs like peas, and heading for recession. The powerhouses of Europe are struggling just like we are. Need to look forward and inside our own capabilities to improve

So now the bank of England has broken ranks and said in order to get growth we need to repair relations with europe and whatever that means. Something i have been saying since day 1. So I was wondering after a disastrous experiment what the many Brexiteers on here feel has been gained by it. Maybe both the governor of the bank and england and me are wrong.

Quite apart from giving away the 'secret' of invisible messages -

You should note that 'invisible' posts 6310 and 6314 appear as normal, visible posts when viewed via the advfn mobile app 🤓

No fiddling about with cursor etc necessary ...

You can replace a post with a space, no need to mess about with font colours.

How about:

Place you cursor immediately under the posters name - on the left of the screen.
There will be an arrow head shape formed for the cursor.
Move it slowly in a downwards direction, keeping to the left, such that as the cursor passes over each line of visible text the shape of the cursor changes. Mine becomes a exaggerated and thin letter I.
Continue, noting the blank lines cause the cursor shape to revert to the arrow head.

Except, if there's a piece of text displayed in white on a white background (hence, invisible) that cursor shape changes to the I shape even though there 'appears' to be no text.

The sneaky poster may of course have embedded the 'hidden' text several characters to the right so you may need to slowly move the cursor over the expanse of the post.

When (if) you locate a 'hidden' text, make an attempt to highlight it by pressing on the left mouse button and moving the cursor rightwards as you hold that button down. Any hidden text, highlighted, will then appear.

bamboo,

Yes, long time!

Maybe I could have written that a bit better, anyone baffled by it can always visit Skinny's blank post though and sweep their cursor around a bit near the top left and see if it picks up on the hidden characters.

By the way I still use your DEFL thread a lot for thv gold charts, best collection of them in one place I've found ! :0)

Hi Cassini, long time, re, "However, my cursor will pick up if something is there if I hover over your post, by changing from an arrow to a bar, plus if I then select that indicated area, your post 'Very' becomes visible as it gets highlighted in blue!"

This will go over quite a few heads! :-)

I met up with Addo one Friday afternoon about 20 odd years ago Skinny.

His ‘Bertie Browntrousers’ thread was hysterical.

I’ll see if I can find it.

Yes - a rare thing these days!

From memory, it was in discussions about ARM.

Skinny,

I can't say I remember Addo, though I have been a member since about 2003 so might have come across him. It depends what forums he frequented really.

I have seen a variety of users disappear. Maybe they went to LSE, maybe they went to heaven, maybe they got bored and stopped posting.

One thing I like about ADVFN is the comparative lack of Nannying. That's why I stayed a member. Of course it does lead to forum implosion from time to time, but that's a price worth paying I think.

The new filtering system is an improvement over the old.

Some smart people on here. Pity the same cannot be said of the government, nor indeed, some companies.

Yeah OK, I know the white font on a white background trick ;0)

However, my cursor will pick up if something is there if I hover over your post, by changing from an arrow to a bar, plus if I then select that indicated area, your post 'Very' becomes visible as it gets highlighted in blue!

Good way to send secret messages though ;0)

You can't leave an edited post blank.

The system won't allow it.

It has to have at least one character left.

Any character will do, but a full stop seems to be the customary choice.

A bit late to the posting of a full stop.

I had previously read, that the reason was, that if you had removed a post you subsequently thought was wrong or had second thoughts about, that if you left it blank, the original post remained in the system somewhere but if you replaced it with a full stop, that overwrote the original post so the original post completely disappeared.

No doubt some of the IT experts will know if that is true or just an old wives tale but I suspect quite a few people err on the side of caution and use a full stop to replace the post they were removing.
