A second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia will take place later today, Russian state news agency Tass has reported, citing an aide to the Ukrainian presidential office.

Earlier today, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters a Russian delegation will be “in place” on Wednesday for a new round of talks with Ukraine.

The way I see it is that we are either heading for WW3 or this situation will all calm down quickly. I am betting the world has no stomach for WW3 but WTFDIK!

I was pointing out that a 38 percent drop was very large for only 1 percent of the shares changing hands.

Just over 1 percent of the shares (40m of 3958m total shares) have been traded today. And the share price has dropped nearly 40 percent. It's terrible obviously but also highlights how quickly the share price can turn up on peace and a cease fire.

Yes luckyabbey I didn't do this. I think I posted here at 16p about the fact that I ought to do it but was too underwater. My biggest failing as an investor is unwillingness to cut losses. At the very least sell a quarter to leave scope to buy back in.

stevea there is a distinction between understanding Putin's demands (eg Ukraine never joining Nato, but lots else besides) and actually agreeing with them, let alone taking the view that bombing civilians or driving them out (Donbass, Crimea and this one) is the best way to achieve such aims. There is no reasonable line of argument that by invading Ukraine Putin makes Russia safer. Quite the opposite. It is obvious that every country near him who is not a member of Nato will want to join, since they can never be sure he won't find an excuse to invade them. He is also damaging Russia economically far more than anything the West would have done without his crazy invasion. Put another way, EVEN IF, by some massive stretch of the imagination, you believe some of the conspiracy theories, bombing civilians in Kiev will do Russia more harm than good. There are some similarities with Hamas militants.

Plus he never seemed to ask himself why Ukraine as a moderately functioning democracy becoming increasingly anti the Russian regime. It was in large part because of Putin's own policies, whether in Ukraine (Russian puppet, Donbass, MH17, Crimea, always denying what was easily visible), or Chechnya, Georgia, Moldova etc. If he had engaged constructively and supported genuine democracy and visibly worked against the most corrupt Ukrainian oligarchs, or just not been involved in military activity which caused the deaths of Ukrainian civilians, it is likely things would have worked out differently. His foreign policy has amounted to hitting one person with a very large stick, and then claiming to be threatened when the injured party's neighbours take a step back and pick up a small stick as an insurance policy.

Of course I accept that elements in 'the West' have sometimes acted in ways that will make a paranoid delusional think everyone is against him, but surely he must have noticed that the more viciously he behaved the more the west did things that he interpreted as threatening. Take the poor little Baltics. They live a charmed life, knowing that Russia could swallow them up or blow them up in the blink of an eye, and they know that Russian policy is to undermine them or worse, so of course they will seek safety in a defensive coalition.
