06/10/2016 09:42 | Some serious volatility. The Money2020 mentioned above is a massive event and I am sure that is behind the rise recently - it is where deals and done and products launched. This is not a time to be out of PAYS | trentendboy

06/10/2016 08:53 | 42,500 views on youtube. That's a large number for such a niche subject. Plenty of interested parties methinks. | melf

05/10/2016 20:20 | Odd that the price has come off the boil despite the very convincing pointers towards a deal with IBM.Wait and see game now. | nurdin
05/10/2016 19:22 | Financing cost of a 2.7% short is probably about £1.2mn a yr - or £100K every month - ouch !!! | wolfhound1
05/10/2016 18:57 | I suppose that the stock maybe out on loan to GS as collateral for a loan but if it is it's a very big one. I think my mortgage is bad enough. | pshevlin
05/10/2016 18:55 | I think the key is the date 30 Sept !! QTR end reporting of profits and risks for Goldman Sachs !! Hypothetical Scenario to explain logic : 1. Assume GS are broker to AEK (UK) ltd who went short 2.7% of PAYS 2. Assume GS prop desk and GS Asset mngmt took the other side of that trade and wrote a naked short via a CFD . 3. If so come 30 Sept GS would be up £10mn but would also be reporting a big open risk position of £66mn( 2.7% of the £2.3 bn MV) plus the £10mn on the trade. Solution : * hedge out the open risk position in PAYS with a stock borrow of 3% at a new market high and close the qtr end report showing youmade £10mn profit and are running zero risk - therefore no need to reserve any of the profits as no open risk. Happy days if you are GS - not so if you are AEK who just found out they were on the wrong side of the trade !! Will be interesting to see if AEK now close out their short position and if they get caught in a short squeeze - probably good for another 5-10% rise in the share price !! KEy to watch will be if GS fall below the 3% threshold and AEK short also decreases on the FSA website GLA - onwards and upwards ! | wolfhound1
05/10/2016 18:01 | Goldman's name is not a name that makes me want to throw my hat into the air but I hope I'm wrong. For some reason an image of vultures descending has come into my mind............. Let's hope their shedloads will be our shedloads and think positively..... | keyno
05/10/2016 17:57 | I have noticed recently that short positions are at 3.46%. This does begin to make me a little nervous especially if it continues to rise. Seen it all before. | pshevlin
05/10/2016 17:43 | So, who has lent it to them? Why,what do they have to gain if something big is on the horizon and what are GS going to do with it? Do they have an option to buy the lot? Answers on a postcard. | pshevlin
05/10/2016 17:29 | What is the current "out on loan" number for PAYS. You would not normally see this sort of announcement with a naked short | trentendboy
05/10/2016 17:28 | Wolfhound, If that really is a physical stock loan then this is likely the Goldman Prop desk which has a derivative instrument on the other side of the trade - which may have now been exercised. However if a naked stock loan then Goldmans could be looking to go short. Hell, what do i know!! | stuart37
05/10/2016 17:27 | Goldman don't do anything unless they think it's going to make them shedloads. | keyno |
