It is worth remembering that Ocado's business operations remain heavily loss-making where it matters and it continues to burn cash at an astonishing rate..

Don't expect any dividend payments.

Kroger Plans Minimum 7-Tranche Bond Sale for Albertsons Deal
Investor calls were being held Monday ahead of note issuance
Two trials have been scheduled in efforts to block the tie-up

19 August 2024 at 17:16 BST

Kroger Co. is poised to sell investment-grade bonds in at least seven parts to help fund its proposed acquisition of fellow grocer Albertsons Cos. as antitrust scrutiny continues to hang over the plan.

A prospectus was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday for Kroger to sell notes that would mature between 2026 and 2064. Proceeds — along with cash on hand, term-loan borrowings and if necessary other borrowings — would pay

How much is Albertsons takeover?
Fact: The Kroger-Albertsons Merger. In October 2022, grocery giant Kroger entered into an agreement to acquire its rival Albertsons for $24.6 billion. The deal would be the biggest supermarket merger in history, combining two mega-chains that have already consolidated much of the industry

It's a common enough instrument to use, more often than not refinanced periodically

I like the share price volatility. Just have to try not to be the one left without a chair when the music stops.

Shame you can't read and actually understand Ocado's balance sheet.

The black hole in Ocado's finances still needs addressing.

The Convertible Bond issuance is only a temporary sticking plaster and it is not the solution.

I suppose with its increasing market share Ocado will have more cash to tide it over until it finally sorts itself out and moves to profitability or is taken over.

https://www.producebluebook.com/2024/08/15/online-grocery-sales-rise-in-july-led-by-delivery/US sales of delivery growing exponentially.Walmart deliveru sales growing over 20% YOY.Kroger online deliveries growing even faster and existing warehouses drawing down more modules. More Kroger CFCs to be announced before Christmas I would imagine because ofnaddionally capacity needed and surge of demand in online groceries.

We had a similar situation with pikeys in our village. Tried talking to the elders with no joy. It's a shameful state of affairs really.

My Mrs works at a smaller tescos store. The weekly loss due to theft is much higher than the cost of s security guard. Go figure? However, tesco use the service of roaming security for serious incidents only for their smaller stores. Tesco staff are under instruction not to tackle shoplifters only to refuse them entry the next time they visit. The amount of stock that's stolen per week is ridiculous, it makes no sense.

BRC director of business and regulations Tom Ironside says: "Shoplifting has risen by 27% in the past year across ten of the largest UK cities."These high levels of theft cost retailers almost £1bn in 2021/22, money that would be better used to reduce prices and invest in a better customer experience. To tackle this issue, retailers are spending hundreds of millions on security staff, CCTV, security tags, and other anti-crime measures."That's a cost that Ocado and their partners don't have to contend with. Also, when you go to a supermarket, do you really want to be near the kind of people that steal groceries? The problem is only going to get worse as more people go into poverty. The regular ordinary families will eventually have enough and go online. I think this is already starting to happen. Looking at Ocado retail numbers growing rapidly every quarter.
