16/8/2024 13:18 | Shame you can't read and understand Ocado's balance sheet. The black hole in Ocado's finances still needs addressing. The Convertible Bond issuance is only a temporary sticking plaster and it is not the solution. | factsandfigures | |

15/8/2024 13:09 | OCADO SHARES DOWNGRADED BY SHORE CAPITAL (STOCKBROKERS) ==================== Analysts from Shore Capital (Stockbrokers) have warned clients that Ocado’s inability to turn a profit and rein in cash burn means the business is “living on fumes”. Shore Cap remains highly critical of Ocado’s inability to make progress “in building a substantial non-UK firm”, highlighting the difficulties and complexities of running a company of two halves. Analysts pointed out that Ocado Retail, which is essentially just its joint venture with Marks & Spencer Group plc, continues to have razor-thin operating margins of just 2.5%. Whilst recent results show “a welcome improvement”, it will be quite some time before that half of the business “makes an attractive EBIT contribution”, said the broker. As for Ocado’s technology segment, made up of its robotic warehouse services, Shore Cap remains highly sceptical of the progress being made internationally. Ocado currently only licences its warehouse tech to just 13 overseas retailers. Sales in this part of the business grew 22% year on year, for the first half, but “Ocado remains heavily loss-making and continues to burn cash”, said Shore Cap. | throgmortonstreet |
