05/11/2024 16:55 | +0.14% folio, [FTSE All-Share -0.10%] BA., ADVT, INVP, AA4, leading gainers. ENSI -13.6%. Final results, battles rising costs but promising as expected. Stockopedia agrees with me that it may need additional financing hence the plunge. Love these AIM shares. accounts nearly all my losses today. My commiserations Mr Phil. | blueliner
05/11/2024 13:59 | Feel for you Mrphil. The business I work for makes a net profit of about £20k pcm and employees 300 staff mostly on NMW. Very low margin industry. The rise in the NICs bill will increase it from £50k pcm to £70k. The rise in NMW will add about £50k to the £550k gross wage bill. To say I'm concerned about my job security is an understatement. And wait until employees can start getting paid SSP sick from there first day, with no waiting days before payment. If we elect communists we cant expect to have wealth. | mozy123
05/11/2024 12:52 | Bonfire half built and already as big as last year. That one struggled get going so this will feel a hot one if it takes, which it should since it all seems fairly dry. I might have to hold some back so it is not too big. | aleman
05/11/2024 12:31 | FIX is another quite useful thread | scottishfield
05/11/2024 11:59 | Aleman5 Nov '24 - 11:03 - 90395 of 90397 0 1 0 There is the quietish DIVI thread that might interest you. -------------------- Thanks Aleman. I'll check it out. | brucie5
05/11/2024 11:27 | Thanks for all the supportive comments guys. First world problems really, we all have a lot to be thankful for! My lot are just about positive this morning and I had £50 from ERNIE this month! That will go towards a new tyre from a screw I picked up at the weekend! | mrphil
05/11/2024 11:23 | Sorry for your woes MrP. I’m not a fan of paid for research such as Edison. They are more of a PR company than one that is objective. Whilst that can be useful, I’d take 25% off everything they say. Good luck with it though. | dr biotech
05/11/2024 11:03 | I think we generally moan about all politicians and parties here, Brucie, so generally don't descend to political bickering. Good to hear you've had a bit of positive dividend news there. We don't get enough of that. I'd say dividends seem to be holding up a bit better than capital in recent months. Hopefully that will continue. There is the quietish DIVI thread that might interest you. It could do with more posting but some of it is interesting and has useful links. Investment trusts you might investigate for income - AEI, EAT, HFEL, HHI, SDV. | aleman
05/11/2024 10:29 | Yes, feel for you MrP. V unpleasant situation not of your making. Especially when so much time and effort goes into it for so long. | scottishfield
05/11/2024 10:23 | Moring everyone. Dark and cold. MrP that sounds like a horror show for you. This Labour mob haven't a clue what's involved in running a business. All most politicians have ever done is talk for a living, telling people what they ought to be doing and thinking. Sick of them all. | philanderer
05/11/2024 09:56 | Good morning. Murky, cold and grey for the 4th day (and grass soggy so still no final mow) - probably about right for bonfire night. I keep bumping into people so we've now maybe got about 30 coming instead of 10. I might have to go shopping again! I think this is our murk: Many sympathies, MrP. It all feels a bit unfair somehow and seems to punish hard work and risk-taking. A rise in dividend tax would have got me but they left that alone strangely so I can still afford the mortgage - if they stop pushing mortgage rates up! The capital gains tax I can work around a bit. There is getting less to buy as the UK market shrinks so less imperative to sell what I've got after moving from more small caps to more investment trusts. The remaining UK shares do seem to be getting cheaper, though! Should I be tempted back ......... er, probably not. | aleman
05/11/2024 09:49 | Keir Starmer breaks another pre-election promise as clip with Andrew Neil resurfaces Wonder if the people that voted for this lot realise how they have been conned? This latest one refers to a firm promise he made to remove university tuition fees altogether, and here he is increasing them! | mrphil
05/11/2024 09:03 | Skinny, unfortunately I think it would fall on deaf ears as the media have programmed the masses to despise anyone that has dared to work hard and try to make something of themselves, and that falls perfectly into the hands of a typical socialist government. I love our country but I really do fear for the next few years. | mrphil
05/11/2024 08:54 | Good Morning. Sorry to hear of tribulations MrP - you do wonder what the point of being responsible is anymore. I'd write to one of the newspapers (Times) - I'm sure your case - although not unique - would make good press! | skinny
04/11/2024 19:24 | philanderer - No not so good for The Terriers, they were, as the BBC showed, terrible. Tamworth deserved their win. The club don't dseem to be able to halt the downward momentum. However, watching Auckland FC beat Wellington Phoenix and stay top of the Austalian A league improved my spirits. The $NZ continues it's decline, especially against the GBPound (been that way since Nov 2016). We're in a mess here with brightest and best leaving enmasse for Aus with their replacements coming mainly from India and China. Plus 30% of exports go directly to China, which could stop in a moment if things go wrong. The lab/green coalition will probably get back in again next time (and what a mess they made last time!!) | kiwi2007
04/11/2024 18:50 | Down 0.095% today. Worst culprit = CLIG, best riser(s) = CHRT,TAM,IGP,TIME,MA | scottishfield
04/11/2024 17:59 | The drop in the STCM bid by 7% this afternoon saw me finish marginally down. I thought their recent Q3 update was very good but the slight gain has gone. The UK stockmarket hates smallcaps these days and punishes good with bad. Might as well shut AIM down the way it is going .... Shopped at TSCO just for a few bits ready for our annual bonfire social tomorrow. Leaves reasonably dry and a big pile swept up to pile cardboard and branches on after checking for wildlife. Grass was too wet to mow again, though, despite no rain today - it's too cold , grey and damp still to dry. I felt almost like I needed a light for my bike when I went into town after lunch and my knees turned red for the first time with the windchill. I just about coped sitting out for coffee with three layers and my thick woolly hat. I enjoyed th eride, though. Did ok and there were fewer numpties out than those blowing leaves off paths today! It was very quiet. 11.1C after 9.3C. | aleman
04/11/2024 17:46 | Last day at sea. Due in Portsmouth tomorrow morning.Hopefully update on my situation tomorrow night.DF | deanforester
04/11/2024 17:06 | I finished up 0.13%. My brother-in-law hit a pothole on a local main road yesterday, resulting in a trip on an RAC low loader, followed by £400 for 2 new tyres and the loss of @7 hours of his day - isn't this country great - that's (obviously) rhetorical! | skinny
04/11/2024 17:04 | Portfolio +0.12% , best ones TSCO, BP, SHEL, WTB and ABF , top losers DGE, IMI and RS1. Gloomy skies soon burned off by the sunshine this morning 15C , borderline ok for shorts. Got the mower out to pick up the leaves . Holiday washing all done and dried. Pukka pies , chips and salad tonIght . Bottle of Pinotage. | philanderer
04/11/2024 17:01 | Portfolio cratered towards the close of play finishing +£8.43 FTSE All-Share +0.21%] CSN, BT.A, HICL, ENSI, leading gainers, very little else showed their mettle. BA.,(US election) JSG, NEXN, worst fallers. Reluctantly I sold my shares in WDS last week, not the greatest financial move. It becomes complicated to continue holding due to the delisting. Although they would be remain nominally held by HL, HSBC become involved should you wish to sell them at some future date. Dividends were not mentioned in the communication. Cloudy dry Max 10C at Watnall. | blueliner
04/11/2024 16:53 | More blues than reds, unfortunatly the reds were larger in value. Down 0.15% Worst fallers BA,MSHL,YCA,ULTP. No outstanding blues best of a poor lot CSN. | malcolm caton |
