At the AGM, which you all can play back (recorded), question was put by some guy about the SO being hived off and JP spelt it out that the SO is only a small part of NG.

The public see the SO as NG because that is the only thing they show on the TV when a story relates to Energy prices or energy issues.

One must remember behind all the SO IEMS screens the equipment (OH lines, Transformers, QBs, Caps, reactors, CBs, Isols, E/Ss etc etc belong to NG Asset Mgt).

He also highlighted that after the business transformation, the US will account for 50% of the business, UK 40% and Ventures / Interconnectors 10%.

JP also intimated the massive task the UK business will undertake when it integrates WPD into the business in order to meet targets to install the massive amount of EV charging points in towns, cities, countryside etc.

If the Engineering climate changes materialise as expected, I can see NG being a £20/share stock

Pierre,

Many are already in post, ie, those at ESO will simply transfer to the new Company name. I know the people at ESO and yes you are right they do need experienced people managing the system, which the general population haven’t got a clue about. However, they ( NG ESO), have recognised that they have lost a vast amount experience over the past few years and have made great efforts to skill up the new team.

Good for my shares, not good for my electricity supply. It derisks Ng quite a bit and the compensation for loss of profit look generous.I hope they recruit carefully, controlling the grid isn't for beginners. On the deregulation, most from the research labs transferred to Ng, because that's where their intelligence and experience were required. Lots of PhDs in GSM.I hope we don't see Greta as the top bod, but I suspect it will go that way with further 'greening' of the grid.

7779:

The System Operator only brings in £70million of profit, tops! That is less than 3% of total profits. This has been on the cards for years and is easily done by the fact that NGSO is a ring-fenced separate body to NG.

Having spoken to John Pettigrew, he says that the Government will compensate NG to the tune of £500million.

Once we get rid of this element of business there will be far less regulatory restrictions. Also, when the Review on integrating WPD into NG is allowed to progress, there will be mass potential especially as NG will become the biggest owner/installer of EV charging points around the country.

re 7779 - if the Government run it then its the kiss of death, no public enterprise seems to runs efficiently and fiscally effectively, oh dear another mess up - why change what is working well but I suppose that's what they do.

The government is preparing to issue plans to strip National Grid of its responsibility for running Britain's electricity system in favour of a new independent body. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is planning to unveil a consultation outlining the creation of a "Future System Operator", which would manage the country's electricity system, alongside plans for a new governance framework for energy regulations. An announcement could come as early as this week.https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/national-grid-to-lose-electricity-role-to-independent-body-vcvwlnnk2

Tipped on Master Investor fwiw, by Robert Stephens:

National Grid’s share price has underperformed the FTSE 100 over the past year. It has risen by 8%, versus 15% for the index, as investors have rotated into growth stocks. This means that the company now has a dividend yield of 5.2%, which is more than two percentage points higher than that of the wider index.

National Grid also offers a relatively attractive dividend growth outlook. The company is aiming to increase dividend payouts by CPIH, which is a measure of inflation, over the medium term. This may make the stock appealing should inflation move higher than its current level of 2.1%.

In addition, the company is making changes to its business model that may position it for long-term growth. It is in the process of acquiring Western Power Distribution, which is the UK’s largest electricity distribution network operator. In tandem, National Grid is seeking to offload a majority stake in its UK gas transmission business.

This will tilt the company’s revenue increasingly towards electricity, with 69% of its asset base expected to be made up of electricity assets post-acquisition versus 58% today. With the use of fossil fuels, such as gas, expected to decline and the UK’s use of electricity forecast to double by 2050, the company’s strategy could catalyse its earnings growth and lead to growing dividends over the long run.

This stock is being held back!

NG is not a Charity, the decision on ROE should be in NG's favour and Ofgem should stop playing marxist politics and allow NG to integrate WPD into the Group.

A customer, doesn't dictate to a Landlord how to run his pub and at what prices they are allowed to charge for the produce/service. By the same token you cannot expect Electricity and Energy on the cheap. If you want a reliable service you have to pay for it.

People should spend less on holidays, cars and luxuries and prioritise on fundamentals, Housing (Rent or Mortgages), Food and Utility bills. Everything else is a luxury!

We live in a cold, wet and damp country and it's not unreasonable to expect to pay a reasonable amount of income on Utility bills to secure investment, security and reliability.

But as is often the case much of the US rise was after the London close so all things been equal that should at least help here at the open.

Only equivalent to a few pence on the price over here but every little helps!

Bounty,

The rise in the US is quite modest. To convert to £ remember divide by 5 ( adr = 5 uk shares) and then divide by 1.41 current exchange rate between US$ and GB£

Price has come back to ema level and turning up.
I agree, the div has set this off, however, it's a risk I can accept.

Which indicator are you referring to cw2000, if you don’t mind me asking? Certainly it’s just hit the 50 day MA, with the fast stochastic and macd are all looking favourable.

However, lots of this is a purely technical thing, mainly due to the 32p xd price drop last week, so I’m not completely convinced by it.

Good luck everyone, Sid.
