Article in Today's Daily Telegraph,

After the stock market storm, these are the Income Portfolio stocks to buy

"
National Grid’s growth market is now the US, where, under president Trump’s administration, threats to revenue streams are far less likely. The business’s commitment to raising dividends in line with inflation is unchanged. Questor rates it a “buy”.

Used to be in HGM, but its just way too risky investing in Russians stocks now. Way too risky. I've read unofficial reports of what Putin gets up to and his 1000 henchmen!!

No I am not short .Why am i here at all?.I will tell you.I sold out of BP for CGT reasons and had to wait 30 days before buying them back.Instead of waiting I foolishly thought that this would be a good short term haven where I would catch the divi then move back to BP.Not one of my smarter moves.I bought a pile at £9 and have never been in profit at any time since.I keep waiting for the tide to stop dropping but as we all can see there is no sign of that yet.It will be a long road back.

Baz,

I take it from your post 6020 that you must be ‘short’?

As for why just look at the trends. AIMOO.

As has already been alluded to, if it was as simple as blaming the “Corbyn effect” for NG’s share price tumble we would have an easy answer but RMG (an outfit riven with union influence and probabily a greater condidate for renationalisation) has not been similarly afflicted.

RMG’s share price is up 46% since the beginning of Nov 17 and the rise shows no sign of abating.

Dividend yield now over 6% which is a growing with RPI and safe as borrowings are mostly fixed where else can you have this return.
Investment is now running in the US at twice the rate of the UK so we can see where NG. profits are forecast to be best.
Still buying a few more I know is like catching a falling knife but I require a safe yield, my capital is protected by the US division value which is more than present market cap for the whole company.

If anyone's interested:

"National Grid operates a Shareholder Networking programme, the aim of which is to allow shareholders to gain a better understanding of the business.

The programme runs over two days and includes visits to operational sites and presentations by senior managers and employees. Participants also have the opportunity to meet and question Directors during the programme, the costs of which (including shareholder travel to and from the event) are covered by National Grid. The programme normally operates during early December. Participants will be selected by ballot from those applying, with priority given to those who have not recently attended."

Possibly other brokers might facilitate same.

US debt would be secured against the US assets which would be out of reach from Corbyn.

Yes 1% will not be great but the us companies are worth more than today's market cap luckily and in the meantime we have a decent dividend.
So best guess 2022 for election unlikely the Marx brothers will win a majority 4 years of secure income and my capital protected by the us subsidiaries.

Yup, he might be but would you want your pension fund manager to supply the funds ?

Sterling and the bond market will tie him and his cronies up tight.
