16/2/2018 18:54 | Article in Today's Daily Telegraph, After the stock market storm, these are the Income Portfolio stocks to buy " National Grid’s growth market is now the US, where, under president Trump’s administration, threats to revenue streams are far less likely. The business’s commitment to raising dividends in line with inflation is unchanged. Questor rates it a “buy”. National Grid Buy Less exposed to political interference and yields 6.2% " | coxsmn

16/2/2018 15:45 | tc No problem, it sounds like 1970's Britain then. | srpactive
16/2/2018 11:17 | Used to be in HGM, but its just way too risky investing in Russians stocks now. Way too risky. I've read unofficial reports of what Putin gets up to and his 1000 henchmen!! | thecroots
15/2/2018 12:14 | No I am not short .Why am i here at all?.I will tell you.I sold out of BP for CGT reasons and had to wait 30 days before buying them back.Instead of waiting I foolishly thought that this would be a good short term haven where I would catch the divi then move back to BP.Not one of my smarter moves.I bought a pile at £9 and have never been in profit at any time since.I keep waiting for the tide to stop dropping but as we all can see there is no sign of that yet.It will be a long road back. | baztea49
15/2/2018 11:53 | Baz, I take it from your post 6020 that you must be ‘short’? As for why just look at the trends. AIMOO. | utyinv
15/2/2018 10:42 | w Fair point. SQ Internet explosion creating massive workload for deliveries will be helping I would have thought. | srpactive
15/2/2018 10:34 | Have looked at HGM before but is Russia based and after a investment in POG a good few years ago will never invest in Russia again . | wskill
15/2/2018 10:24 | As has already been alluded to, if it was as simple as blaming the “Corbyn effect” for NG’s share price tumble we would have an easy answer but RMG (an outfit riven with union influence and probabily a greater condidate for renationalisation) has not been similarly afflicted. RMG’s share price is up 46% since the beginning of Nov 17 and the rise shows no sign of abating. | septimus quaid
15/2/2018 10:17 | HGM is higher. | srpactive
15/2/2018 10:12 | Dividend yield now over 6% which is a growing with RPI and safe as borrowings are mostly fixed where else can you have this return. Investment is now running in the US at twice the rate of the UK so we can see where NG. profits are forecast to be best. Still buying a few more I know is like catching a falling knife but I require a safe yield, my capital is protected by the US division value which is more than present market cap for the whole company. | wskill
15/2/2018 09:49 | Computer Algorithms kick in at 09:00 hrs. Do you know his for a fact? if so, why 0900 and not 0800? and why would they pick on NG,? There must be a good side to this as well as a bad side surely depending what side of the trade you are on,Tell me more | baztea49
15/2/2018 09:27 | Computer Algorithms kick in at 09:00 hrs. It’s time that the boring programme was removed and humans put in charge of buys and sells basic on logic and profitability of business. | utyinv
14/2/2018 21:00 | If anyone's interested: "National Grid operates a Shareholder Networking programme, the aim of which is to allow shareholders to gain a better understanding of the business. The programme runs over two days and includes visits to operational sites and presentations by senior managers and employees. Participants also have the opportunity to meet and question Directors during the programme, the costs of which (including shareholder travel to and from the event) are covered by National Grid. The programme normally operates during early December. Participants will be selected by ballot from those applying, with priority given to those who have not recently attended." Possibly other brokers might facilitate same. | septimus quaid
14/2/2018 12:12 | US debt would be secured against the US assets which would be out of reach from Corbyn. | dr biotech
14/2/2018 12:12 | Yes 1% will not be great but the us companies are worth more than today's market cap luckily and in the meantime we have a decent dividend. So best guess 2022 for election unlikely the Marx brothers will win a majority 4 years of secure income and my capital protected by the us subsidiaries. | wskill
14/2/2018 11:50 | 6013 Yup, he might be but would you want your pension fund manager to supply the funds ? Sterling and the bond market will tie him and his cronies up tight. | bolador
14/2/2018 11:28 | #6010 - but Corbyn will be looking for just 1% on his bonds? | bountyhunter

14/2/2018 10:26 | An optimist will be hoping 10 year US treasuries will not break 3% and just trade sideways American debt matures over next five years Company CFO visits creditors and asks to renew the debt. Banker looks at the share price chart, coughs and mutters Corbyn and political risk of nationalization Banker wants 10% yield on the debt for the risk as Corbyn if a fascist like Maduro of Venezuela Ok too much info, let the bounce begin to fool the majority | muffinhead
14/2/2018 09:39 | National Grid debt profile Majority needs renewal within next 10 years Discounted cashflow yield for investors is challenged especially if interest rates rise ( see previous link) | muffinhead |
