The FTSE fell over 30% in 2008, 10 years is hardly a generation.

Regarding National Grid, I see the negative pressure on the share price fails to relent. It would not surprise me for this to drop below 600p before showing real signs of recovery. So much for buying a safe stock for the dividend...

I've changed the ADVFN chart URLs slightly to match their current quote page charts - not sure if that will fix the issue or they just look ok right now because no stalled versions of these charts are cached! Also aligned widths of all charts.

Seems this 10% correction is a new phenomenon. The perceived wisdom used to be that a 10% fall indicated a change in direction from bull to bear. A whole generation working in finance haven't experienced a bear market in their working lives.

The dow has now gone back down to the crazy intraday
low ( own 1700pts ) it achieved the day it sunk 1100pts
at the close. I feel all markets will now bounce from
here for a number of weeks, dyor.

I hope to see 750p tested and closed above tonight, dyor
a must in these type of markets.

DOW down 1032 points.

Uty, you are going to be right.

I also see oil has been hit in the US too.

Yes a nasty close on the Dow, although the US utility sector showed resilience compared to other sectors.

Bounty,

Not looking good in the US! Looks like another fall when London opens. I hope I am wrong but certainly looks that way.

Yes absolutely taking everything with it regardless of what happened on the way up! I've taken to watching Quest on CNN at 9pm recently to try to understand this volatility.

Bounty,

Not surprised its stalled, have you seen the dow?

It was obvious that the US DOW was overpriced expanding 1000 points in a day sometimes whilst the FTSE hardly moved. Now that the DOW is having a correction it's taking everything with it including defensives.

Who knows when this rout will stop?

Hi Newbank, yes there has been an intermittent advfn issue over the last few days, especially at the end of the day, people have been complaining on other threads. Due to the timing it's just the US charts which have stalled at the moment.

Bountyhunter,

The charts don’t appear to be updating. Other threads are updating so not sure if it’s an ADVFN issue?

The Dow's on a downer again - just a correction or the start of a bear market, that is the question? Most commentators are saying correction as fundamentals are generally strong with which I agree - valuations have not got way out of hand in terms of PE ratios as they did back in the dotcom days and we don't appear to have another banking crisis looming as in 2008/2009.

Bought some today for long term income in my SIPP. Not interested in trying to pick the bottom. Imo these are cheap and the dividend makes it an income no brainer

U

I meant never short on any stock, not bought here yet,
and yes initially here when share price was 900p and
a friend asked me my view on ng. which I gave.
Now though I am interested for myself,I hope that is
clearer.
