03/1/2017 03:28 | Merck article ... "It turns out that Merck has been working on this idea using QRs. Merck made a sheet of green and red pixels, using QRs, and used a blue LED of 470nm to stimulate it - and to provide the blue through transparent pixels. Using this technique, Merck was able to make a wide colour gamut of 80% of the area of Rec 2020, although only 70% of the actual area of the 2020 gamut was covered as the primaries were not optimised." hxxp://www.displayda | ih_169538
02/1/2017 23:50 | So who's supply the QDs to LG for their display team to make the film. | john henry
02/1/2017 22:35 | A variation on qd | mr.oz
02/1/2017 22:30 | To achieve this, LG uses a quantum dot film developed by the company’s display division that it calls Nano Cell, which allows for more accurate colors, deeper blacks, and a wider viewing angle. While conventional LCD displays can lose nearly 60 percent of their color and contrast when viewed from off to the side, LG says the SJ9500 maintains 95 percent at the same angles, meaning you don’t have to fight over the best seat in the house, at least not for picture-related reasons. | chaba1
02/1/2017 22:06 | I know they were previously with their "ips" tech, but not heard of the nanocell label before... Chaba: assumption for documented fact? Sinbad: didn't know phosphors could go that small, and surely fwhm wouldn't even come close to supporting that claim?? Mind you, disappointment seems to be the order of the stock so far with nano. | kenirogas
02/1/2017 22:00 | LG has developed their technology with different LCD. Not about QD | chaba1
02/1/2017 21:59 | Don't think it is KeniThey are fighting samsung hard and trying to create confusion.....Sounds like some type of advanced phosphor tech | sinbad74
02/1/2017 21:55 | Howver, right at the end of the piece Brian Kwon states:--"Our 2017 SUPER UHD TV lineup with LG’s proprietary Nano Cell technology is a breakthrough in display technology that advances the LCD TV viewing experience to a level unlike any other,” ... But does proprietary necessarily preclude the use of qds as part of a larger " nano cell technology"?--- Guess we'll find out soon... | kenirogas
02/1/2017 21:37 | Direct quote from LG/news/homeent: Nano Cell LCD displays offer a technological advantage by employing uniformly-sized particles approximately one nanometer in diameter to create more subtle, accurate colors that can be viewed from wider angles than other TVs. Ideal for large, high-resolution TVs, LG SUPER UHD TVs with Nano Cell deliver consistent colors at wider viewing angles with virtually no color difference for viewers seated directly in front of the screen and those watching from a 60 degree angle. Could it be? But a single nanometer? Does that fit with Nanoco product? ...and the full link:--- | kenirogas
02/1/2017 21:23 | Think they have got it wrong again these tech journalists are not very good The marketing machines of Samsung and lg are at warThe tech is 2nd place ...it's all about what you can make the punters believe | sinbad74
02/1/2017 19:30 | Slip: Letting bygones be bygones is honourable, though doing so does not raise my opinon of those who compare investing to a game of chicken and choose to belittle others who decide to place their money elsewhere after being let down by Nanoco for many years. I still believe in Nanoco, but I do not believe in miracles. One of the major reasons I sold was a recent comment by you that Nanoco was no longer manufacturing 24/7. As I had expected, the AGM seems to have been a bit of a disappointment. Edelman's share sale is also questionable. By the way, I concur with your brexit comment. GB should be free from both Europe and the self-righteous pressure of the politically correct. | mwwh
02/1/2017 18:54 | Keni CES 2017 starts tomorrow with 2 days for the Media before it becomes public on Thursday. | syd777
02/1/2017 17:54 | Onething: I think the "imminent success" is already here...just not yet for Nano. -- Hoping I actually recognise the brand name of the sets which will be on the show floor on Thursday. TCL or Hisense would be great, though TCL started marketing their cad free X1 with, presumably, nanosys dots....though general belief is that's not proper cad free... | kenirogas
02/1/2017 17:04 | Nanoco's CES story of TWO years ago:http://www.nanoc | onething
02/1/2017 16:54 | From that link:If you had asked the experts a decade ago, they would probably have predicted OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs would be the norm by now. But the tech has faced several setbacks..... Worth considering alongside those so confidently predicting the imminent success of Qdots. | onething
02/1/2017 14:56 | - This link makes reference to the new TV technology on show at CES.....HNY everyone jb9 | julesb9
02/1/2017 09:35 | Happy New Year! So, when to we change the thread to 2017 - a transformational year for CFQD? | soggy
01/1/2017 22:49 | Happy new year all - here's to an above all happy and healthy new year with a little prosperity! - looking forward to a bit more insight via ces as to where any contracts / revenue may be likely in the near future.... | howl01
01/1/2017 01:47 | Happy New Year everybody!!Hope everything works out for one and all! It's been a brilliant read in 2016, so (please) more of the same in 2017!Thanks Mr Oz for controlling us so well. | jfacwc
31/12/2016 15:51 | Well written, kuss. | aimingupward2
31/12/2016 15:35 | Yes, QTM next one for the chop. QD vision went this year and they were a significant player with large-scale industrial production coming out of Taiwan. The competitive landscape is reducing. Next up is Nanosys. I've heard a lot of their cadmium production has been shifted and contracted to China. That's worrying. Still unable to produce cad free dots. Think Samsung has a 40% stake in Nanosys, so they may have a limited future assuming they win their patent battle. If not they're dead meat.. Which will leave only two. Hansol and Nano, who are linked up with the two biggest chemical companies on the planet. Probably both will be successful, though Hansol do have borrowed IP and Samsung are paying through the nose to Nanosys for it. Not ideal in my view. In just over 12 months from now the exemption in Europe for cadmium will expire. Funny that it will expire probably before it was ever formally sanctioned by the EU. Anyway, it's history. So what do the Chinese do? Enter Wah Hong and Merck. Wah Hong expanding their cutting capacity. Should be ready by March 2017. Slip will say they are foolish, but they are a successful company so I doubt it. And remember Wah Hong is Nano's direct route to market, but they are also producing for Merck, who are using their own film partners. So commercialisation can come from Wah Hong or Merck or both. Nano of course the supplier. They can now manufacture some 500 kgs of Qdots, some $50 million worth annually. And then there's Dow with a huge factory in Korea. They might have gone quiet but they haven't given up. 50 million automated factory ready to go. Merck will have the same in quick time. By Oct 2017 paying double digit royalties to Nano. So $50 million out of Runcorn and then Dow and then Merck. And the industry is exploding. Only 1.5% quantum dot display sold this year. What percentage next year. Merck knows what's happening to the industry and to the science. They're gearing up at light speed. Nano still at all time lows with the chickens and their heads being separated every week giving money to the likes of slip and the other market vultures. In fact there is a whole industry dedicated to taking your money. But they aren't getting any of mine... On reflection, 2016 was a positive year for Nano. 2017 will be better... But the real fruits will be a few years out when the display industry is 20-30% Qdot. Another year out and it will be 60%. Don't assume science is static. Nano making significant scientific progress every 6 months. Some 80 scientists working out of Manchester university... Well, I'm off to the beach also for a bit of sun and relaxation... See you in the new year... | kuss1
31/12/2016 14:50 | Likewise: HNY all, and thanks Mr.Oz for your dignified and balanced moderation. Who'd have thought Peruvemba would have been out the door before ME? ... 2 working days to CES. Better luck for 2017! | kenirogas
31/12/2016 14:08 | So do I syd in particular the 2 to 4 oem displays with nano, the apple partnership and the short position dropping to 2.4% ! Here is to a successful 2017 | firminator1
