The public doesn't come to these

ME has claimed a lot of things that never stayed long on their website.Remember when they claimed they were the only cad free producers and shortly after removed that comment. From experience, the real business at CES is conducted in private suites and what's on the floor is for the public, tech writers and media outlets.A shown prototype film doesn't mean mass sales orders until the OEMS revue them independently and test it themselves .Theven CES show may or may not result in orders for product.Pricing is another matter and probably the main reason DOW hasn't sold Trevista dots in any large quantities. We know this from Samsungs comments over a year ago and if the price for qd by kg come down even further then where will they stand ? Batch processing limits the ability to mass produce at high uniformity and yield and therefore the ability to bring material to market at scale of economy.

I think I'm a bit disappointed by this...I'd hoped their tech would be on display on a large consumer OEMs stand, not on a tiny booth with their own, largely unknown, name...

Samsung Electronics will take the wrap off QLED TV, a new top-shelf TV brand, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas next month. A QLED TV is a TV that increases the color reproduction rate by attaching quantum dots, a semiconductor particle which is 2 to 10 nanometers (1nm is 1 billionths of a meter), in the form of film in the middle of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels and backlight. Samsung Electronics has been sticking to using "Quantum Dot SUHD TVs" last year since launching a Quantum dot TV for the first time last year.

Well I'm actually very positive amidst all the doubt being voiced on here - I think outside of oled you'll be hard pressed to find a TV not utilising qdots this year at ces. I predict Samsung's latest is just another iteration based on qdef with improved dots, fald and a 'textured' screen (real black). Can't see LG promoting qds. Main Chinese manufacturers will use cad free with TCL showcasing Nanoco. HDR/WCG now becoming an expectation with consumers. It's worth keeping in mind ces showcases the latest tech - not necessarily what's adopted and the average buyer spends A LOT less on a new TV than flagship price tags. The money's in the volume end of the market and qdef satisfies. ces will give everyone a boost and you'll see contracts shortly afterwards - I'm keeping tight hold.

From May 2016:
hxxp://www.nanosysinc.com/press-releases-archive/2016/5/23/nanosys-and-hitachi-chemical-partner-to-accelerate-adoption-of-quantum-dot-technology-for-displays

SAN FRANCISCO, May 23, 2016 -- Nanosys, Inc. announced today that Hitachi Chemical and Nanosys have partnered in the development of QDEF optical films for display applications.

Hitachi Chemical plans to begin shipping QDEF to display manufacturers in mass production volumes during the 2nd half of 2016. This new supply of high quality and cost competitive QDEF will further accelerate the utilization of Quantum Dot technology in displays of all types, including UltraHD televisions, monitors and mobile devices.

Current:

Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hisashi Maruyama; hereinafter Hitachi Chemical) announces the launch of mass production and sales of quantum dot*1 film, an optical technology that realizes a wider color gamut*2 in liquid crystal display (LCD).

Since December 2015 Hitachi Chemical has accelerated the development of quantum dot film by introducing the technology of the leading quantum-dot company, Nanosys, Inc. (Head Office: California, USA; President and CEO: Jason Hartlove; hereinafter Nanosys). This partnership has allowed us to combine Nanosys's quantum dot technology and Hitachi Chemical's strength in polymer science, thus enabling mass production and sales of quantum dot film in about one year after the start of development.

CES has been a damp squib for Nanoco in past years, but the stakes seem a bit higher this year. We'll just have to wait and see.

CES is not just about TVs but all consumer electronics, yes it might be hyped up but it gives an indication what is the best out there and what to expect during 2017.Nanoco will have a stand there for the first time and it expects TVs branded using its prism award winning CFQDs.Remember Samsung did not win the oscars at the biggest award in the industry.

Last year the share price rose rapidly by 50% from 40 to 60 in anticipation of CES, then fell rapidly by 33% from 60 to 40 when nothing came of it. This year the share price has not increased in advance of CES despite a lot of PI expectation of nano qdot tellies being on display. Once bitten twice shy when it comes to buying the rumour? Maybe most people now simply want to wait for something more concrete before piling in.

ME sold shares back in November 2015 for around the low forty pence price. Had he waited until the Summer of 2016, he'd have got well over seventy pence a share. If he'd sold then, it wouldn't have been any better received.

Plus directors do have limited windows of opportunity to sell shares, with their inside knowledge.

Perhaps it's helpful for his tax payments to sell a certain quantity- I don't know know.

2017 is make or break for Nanoco though, IMO.

Samsung Electronics recently registered trademarks for ‘HDR 1500’, ‘Q HDR’, and ‘Real Black’ to KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office). It is expected that performance of 2017 SUHD TVs will be improved by about 50% compared to SUHD TVs that were sold this year. Samsung Electronics stated ‘HDR 1000’ to its SUHD TVs that were sold this year.
Industries predict that Samsung electronics is planning to increase its competitive edge by differentiating elemental technologies such as color volume since UHD TVs have become a trend of premium TVs. Actually many TV manufacturers from Japan and China as well as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are producing UHD TVs.
“Changes in display quality such as full HD and UHD from HD cannot occur every single year.” said a representative for an industry. “Due to this situation, many manufacturers are putting their efforts into improving color representation or contrast with UHD and HDR at the center.”
It is predicted that TV manufacturers will compete even harder to have better qualities for their TVs because while OLED TVs have strength of perfect black color, Quantum-Dot TVs, which use LCD backlight, are going to counter OLED TVs with ‘Real Black’. If Quantum-Dot TVs provide rich color volume according to brightness in addition to ‘Real black’, some predict that Samsung Electronics will be able to grab an upper hand in its competition against other TV manufacturers.
“Although OLED TVs can produce most of color range out of complete digital cinema color standard called DCI-P3 at low brightness, maximum luminescence and limitations in brightness can affect abilities of display’s color representation.̶1; said a market research company called Insight Media that specializes in display fields. “This causes images to lose color at high brightness and results in reduction of color volume.”

Samsung Electronics is going to apply a technology that will improve ‘color volume (tone)’, which will increase color representation, to its 2017 Quantum-Dot SUHD TVs. While this technology will express colors vividly, it will also increase representation of black color which is strength of OLED TVs and brightness which is strength of LCD TVs. This improvement will light up competitions between Quantum-Dot TVs and OLED TVs even more.
According to related industries on the 5th, Samsung Electronics is going to put out 2017 Quantum-Dot SUHD TVs that will have quality of ‘color volume’ greatly increased. Samsung Electronics is planning to introduce 3rd generation Quantum-Dot TV at CES 2017 that is going to be held in Las Vegas in early 2017.
“As quantum-dot material continues to develop, range of color that it can express continues to expand.” said a representative for Samsung Electronics. “Because SUHD TVs that are going to be released in 2017 have much more improved color volume value, they will be much more improved than current TVs from aspect of color representation.̶1;
Color volume is a value that measures color and brightness in a 3D manner by considering the fact that human’s eyes feel color differently depending on brightness when they look at an object. When color volume is improved, TVs can express all range of color from primary colors to achromatic colors very vividly and accurately. It is expected that Samsung Electronics’ 2017 Quantum-Dot TVs will express brightness and darkness very accurately.
