04/7/2009 20:41 | I'm getting more and more interested in Moss Bros. Moss Bros has struggled for some time now and has always looked like it needed to get new management in. In September Simon Berwin bought 35% of the company from Warbek, Philip Green's investment vehicle, Simon Berwin is the owner of Berwin & Berwin, one of the countries biggest suit makers. Withing 3 months the old CEO was out. The previous CEO Philip Mountford went in Jan. He'd been there since Feb 04 but having inherited a business whose shares were rocketing, in 6 months they peaked at 130p only to mount a continuous decline down to 10p in March. By March Moss Bros appointed Brian Brick as the new CEO. Brian Brick started Suits You and sold it out to Gresham in in 05, staying as a non exec until October 07. Brick and Berwin both know each other well and I cannot believe that Brick hasn't taken over the helm without the request of Berwin - they look a formidable partnership - together they seem to have experience in suits greater than anyone. The consensus forecasts suggests a loss of 7p eps this year. They made 1.9p eps last year in H1 and in the recent trading update said gross profit was 1.4% behind the same period last year. On that basis I think they are still set to make a profit in H1. They lost 9.8p for the year last year but from the sound of the new CEO they are getting to grip with increasing margins and I'm sure it's not long till he gets sales growing too. The shares have doubled to 20p since he took over. The new Chairman and CEO each bought 50K @ 17p recently, a non exec bought 111K @ 18p.Resently Simon Berwin became a non-exec and Debbie Hewitt, formerly of M&S also joined as a non-exec. That all sort of sounds like good things happening to me. Aside from all of that they have cash of about £8m and average daily cash has been around £6m - total net assets look well over the £19m mkt cap. Starting to look like the old is out, the new is in and at last these can start to recover under new management that is extremely experienced imo. CR | cockneyrebel | |
