Back in today, small amount.

As this is not a trading board and most will be more interested in a longer
term investment, will only post in future on company or sector specific news.

Read through the transcript of the HI earnings call and there is a lot to like.
Remains to be seen if economic growth takes another hit with
coming job losses. There are mega secular trends for the sector (plastic substitution, e-commerce etc) which may be mitigating current cyclical weakness, at least to a degree.

Appreciate the view. Economic activity slowed incredibly sharply over the last

3-5 months, much of the world is in a technical recession. So there is something

greater at play here - mega structural trend of e-commerce, companies looking

for sustainable packaging options and perhaps also the larger, more efficient

sector companies taking market share. Thats my best guessestimate fwiw.

EssentialInvestor: I think one of the reasons is the greater consumption during the pandemic lock-down all over the world. Increase in consumption will result in demand for packaging. In addition, if the demand is high, margins will go up - Thus why they are highly profitable. This was flagged up by the likes of Amazon and most of on-line retailers (Asos, Bohoo ...). Whereas during a recession, people cannot spend if they have lost their job. Industries will in turn downsize as demand is lower. When demand for goods diminish everywhere, it directly hits packaging firms. I hope this has a bit of sens.

I had expected the packaging sector to be hit for 6 during the next downturn,
(as in 2008) but even with lower probability, the main sector players are
remain highly profitable.

Can anyone explain the difference between this and the last downturn in terms
of why the sector is being hit far less hard? - at least so far.

Glad I topped up last Thursday. Seems my 'hunch' about the dividends was right but happened sooner than I expected. After all, I knew the suspension was only precautionary and fundamentals are solid enough. I view this stock as defensive income rather than growth but there could be some continued rerating near term.

The Board recognises the importance of dividends to shareholders. Having delivered a robust trading performance in the first half of the year and given our resilient business model and strong financial position, the Board has revisited the decision taken in April to suspend the final 2019 dividend and is pleased to resume the payment of dividends.

The Board has declared a 2020 interim ordinary dividend of 19.00 euro cents per share. Both dividends, amounting to a total of 48.75 euro cents per share, will be paid as interim dividends in September 2020 (total of around €236 million).

Great to see the divi. And resilient results under the circumstances.

Better than expected results with particularly excellent news in restarting the dividend which is rare nowadays. Company has excellent cast flow and profit. Good company to have in any portfolio.

Dipped toe back in here on 2nd March with a badly timed scheduled order at 1582p, almost doubled down this afternoon at 1340p. A vain attempt to rescue the previous embarrassment. I have a hunch there's good odds on getting a dividend restored within a few months. Even global pandemics need packaging. I just hope they're offering the right types of packaging right now.

They cancel the dividend.
(AGM 7 May 2020 resolution 4 withdrawn)

Then 11 May 2020 the CEO is awarded 140,758 'bonus' shares.

Is this not scandalous?
