My wife's shares in Balfour Beatty were little affected by the news of the company being sacked by MI6 from the renovation contract they were involved in.
BB reportedly lost some of the floor plans they had been allowed to draw up, from a so-called 'secure room' in the MI6 building.
Why MI6 are blaming Balfour for a failure of their own security is not clear.

Now our small local library have a system of signing and recording movements of all books & documents so they know the whereabouts of all books at any time, (except for any books stolen of course).

If there are any MI6 staff using this site, they can report back to their bosses that the local library's system can be made available to them free of charge.

Seems the world has got to hear about Halma!

NMC - I sold all at £33, bought same number of shares sold (£21.40) and sold all again (£24.90). The writing was on the wall as soon as Muddy Waters was mentioned in August - and a large number of newly created ramp bots on ADVFN exploded into action, 'promoting' the company with idiotic statements, so I got well out, thankfully.

Enjoy your break, GRS. Weather in UK is truly appalling this Autumn/Winter so I don't blame you for escaping!

Afternoon all, just landed in the Canaries in the hope of a break from the drizzle, and it has certainly delivered so far. Car says it’s 30 degrees!

Yertiz, I thought we agreed to not tell anyone about Halma!! Did you sell your NMC Health before the implosion?

Off out to one of our favourite Italian restaurants tonight by the sea - as B+ would say ‘all is right with the world’...

Reviewing my portfolio has shown the 3 most profitable shares in 2019 (so far) are:

IWG up 107%
HALMA up 103%
SEGRO up 57% (in 7 months)

Sold and rebought Melrose shares twice this year, this has boosted the paper profit to over 50% in 4 months and released a large wadge of cash as this was a huge constituent of my portfolio.

Dogs I hold are:
RDSB up 6.3%
RELX up 3.3%
Tate and Lyle up 14.7%

Tips for 2020:

SEGRO
Melrose
4Imprint

2019 has been an impressive year with my portfolio up over 30%. Happy and successful New Year to you all.

Rockrose. Too dependent on the oil price for my liking.

Dear All,
Thank you for your advice.
35 years of experience tell me this is an excellent investment - but I may be wrong.
Valued at restricted cash. Producing 22,000 barrels of oil per day.
CEO Andrew Austin owns 29.9999% of the shares. He is about acquisitions, above their existing market cap, in the North Sea.
They suspend the shares on acquisition - they then come back about 2.5 x time
share price. It is about poo and making the correct acquisition(s).
Worth a look.

Yes, an interesting prospect, bigalan3.

Of course, many would advise you not to put too big a chunk of investment in one company, especially a small company and in an uncertain sector.

I'm personally not of that mind. You're not going to make a fortune spreading your money across a wide range of industry sectors, like backing all the runners in a single horse race, so I've always put most of my eggs in a single, well-researched basket.

Interesting, bigalan3. RRE look to be fairly cash rich in an industry ridden with debt and highly dependent on POO. Good luck with your investment, but until the effect of the reverse takeover of Marathon becomes clearer, investment in RRE is a bit of a lottery. Good to see they are now paying a decent dividend though.

Dear All,
Thank you for your very rigorous analysis of my rather meaningless prediction.
What is far more important is the Rockrose energy (rre) price at the end of the coming year.
Rockrose energy is by far my biggest investment and I suggest you might want to look at it. Many on the interweb said it will be life changing and I am sure they are right.
Happy New Year Everyone.

getting,
You’re absolutely correct on the rules of the share price contest. Please accept my apologies.

Now on your question - ‘Do I ever get anything right’?

Yes, frequently. I was right, for example, to keep all my investment capital in MRO at the beginning of this year and not to put a large amount of this investment into Burford Capital or MINUS900.

Meanwhile, do you ever get anything right??
The invitation for entries clearly stated that entries must be submitted by 5pm on 01 Dec (see original post below). Bigalan missed this deadline, therefore his entry was excluded. It’s really not that complicated. So it’s your lack of attention to detail and carelessness that has led you to believe I have a lack of attention to detail isn’t it???? Now back to my turkey sandwiches. 🦃 🦃

Right, it’s that time of year again - time for the traditional Christmas share price prediction competition!

The question is: “What will the closing share price be on Christmas Eve 2019?;

Submissions by 5pm Sunday 01 December please?

I believe the last 2 champions were Casey the Dog and Mattboxy but I may have got that wrong.

The winner gets a night out with Meanwhile in the Wrexham Wetherspoons.

So getting got the result of the contest for MRO's Christmas share price wrong. bigalan3's post of 2nd Dec. states :-

"My estimate for year end is 242 p. If there is any hint they might sell Norton then it could be a lot higher."

If I hadn't recently reformed my behaviour on this site, I would have said that this was a very typical case of getting's carelessness and lack of attention to detail, spanning all areas, including matters relating to investments.
However, I have reformed so I wouldn't say it. I leave it open for others to say.

But I can congratulate bigalan3 on his successful prediction.
Nick Robinson has now also been pulled out. He wanted a paid Taxi from London to Wrexham. The vacancy has been taken by the duo of Minerve and Vince Cable. The prize also comes with a passport-size wallet photo.

An independent investigation of this result is needed. Last Thursday 25 million shares traded - almost 2x the norm with virtually no price movement. On Friday 18 million shares traded again with virtually no price change. Yesterday 2 million shares traded and the price moved up strongly while today 2 million shares resulted in another upwards move to position the closing price almost on the successful call. Has the attraction of the prize caused some hanky panky trading to guaranty winning. Andrew Bailey should be brought in to scrutinise this before his move to the BOE.

The entries to the Xmas share price competition were as follows:
Yertiz 267p
Brexitplus 252p
Meanwhile 248p
Sliotar 248p
Ryelodge 248p
HVS 248p
Mattboxy 247p
Gettingrichslow 239p

So at a closing price of 242p, I hereby declare the winner is....

Me!

As my prize I get a night out with Meanwhile, Sliotar, Ryelodge and HVS in the Wrexham Wetherspoons. I’ve decided to embrace this and will therefore be travelling up to North Wales to stay at Meanwhile’s house in sheep-poo city on Boxing Day morning! Is that ok with you Sliotar?
