Getting...

I wasn’t on this board at the time of Elster, but what a brilliant acquisition. What I think he really wants, and didn’t get, is rights issues which give him an instant profit. He goes on about this ad infinitum.

I see that rag, the Daily Rubbish, is going on about hedge funds with regards to Sky now. Just jealousy on their part I think.

B+, I don't think Meanwhile will answer your question about questions. He likes asking questions himself (usually along lines of 'can someone give me some numbers?') but applies different rules to others, especially since his latest 'wobble' in the run up to this latest coup. He had a similar 'wobble' in the run up to the Elster buy, but he's not answered any questions about that either unfortunately.

Meanwhile. You are either not very bright or misunderstanding me on purpose.

I said that with Melrose in charge GKN could easily be worth £10+ billion in a couple of years, and because the market did not take this into account Melrose bought GKN on the cheap, pretty much as GKN said.

You give a very good impression of someone who has “gone native.”

At least he isn't swearing as much since the Melrose coup. It has made him go all serious and sanctimonious instead. Not sure which I prefer actually.

Point 3 - I still need Meanwhile to tell me what the rules are for this board. Are we allowed to ask questions or not?

And Losos, pleased to keep you entertained. You are a real gentleman. No more toilets!!!

Point 2 - Airbus.

Airbus were playing both sides during the takeover.

First supporting Melrose to get a better deal from GKN via the media

Then Turner’s mate Williams supporting GKN with the now often quoted “no business ...” message via the media.

Then Airbus stepped back a bit commenting on “following how much Melrose spent on R&D”. This is often overlooked.

As Melrose commented, Airbus have other suppliers owned by real private equity companies and there is no problem.

Since then Airbus and Melrose have spoken and we do not know what was said.

So at present it is mischief making by the media and unions.

Couple of points

Point 1 - this board.

I’m absolutely sure the Melrose team are following this Board assiduously to hear our Captain of Industry minerve’s pronouncements, and are quaking in their boots whenever he posts.

yertiz - "Should I unfilter Minerve or is he still spouting obscenities and fake news?"

A few weeks back there was talk of 'burying the hatchet' with him so I did the unfilter thing, bad decision, within minutes I had put him back on filter.

Don't know how old you are but I have reached the age where I am determined to avoid contact with anyone who thinks they can influence people by using profanities and vulgar language. I don't need it and it does not impress me.

Someone mentioned public toilets recently, once again I have made a decision never to use such places, you only have to look at the dregs of society going in and out to know why.

Should I unfilter Minerve or is he still spouting obscenities and fake news? Thought he would do one once Melrose were victorious in the takeover.

Montyhedge - if you check through to September last year you will see MRO were being shorted to the same or greater extent then. The scope has changed fundamentally with this deal, I expect many of those original shorts to be closed soon, there's far greater near term profits for shorters in the retail sector (Debenhams, for example).
IQE were also being heavily shorted but that picture is changing rapidly, with many burnt fingers as a result.

They (shorters) aren't always right, you know, often following the herd mentality!

Yes Minerve, really thought provoking points from you again and not at all patronising or condescending, honest. So I've had a really good think and I've decided that Melrose are a great company and I'm confident they will continue to succeed. But I promise to sell if Anne is appointed to the Melrose board. Ok with you?

I never said Melrose are in big trouble. Their largest customer Airbus, let me remind you, said it would be “practically impossible” to give new work to the aerospace and automotive engineering group if Melrose Industries succeeded in its hostile takeover bid. The COO would not make those comments lightly. It is up to you to decide, as an investor, whether there is real risk there. I think there is. But, as you point out, it isn't my concern anymore, it is yours.

Brexit also has its risks and is another uncertainty, whether you like it or not. Investing, as I mentioned earlier, is just as much about risk management as it is about making money. Something you need to work on.

Put your small head in the sand if you like, the issues aren't going to go away, and neither am I. I am going to be around to say "I told you so". ;)

That's right Minerve, Melrose are in big trouble, Brexit is going to be a disaster, blah blah. I thought you were off to the Rolls Royce forum after your ludicrously melodramatic 'final' post the other day?

Plus they really don't have a free-hand like before because their largest customer is nervous. Could be already making contigency plans and arranging meetings with alternative suppliers. With Brexit coming they really should be doing this already. Increasing reasons to switch. Airbus have to be seen to making good on their concerns.

I see Melrose one of the most shorted shares, by the hedgies, wonder why?

So I hear Melrose could be a £10B+ company in 1-2 years. With the £4B for current Melrose, GKN will have added £6B. They paid £8.1B.
This is an example of maths.

Meanwhile

Quick question. What are the rules we MUST all abide to on this board? Your answers to Getting do not cover my question.

PS. Your answer 5 is not strictly correct. Quite often in public loos you need to flush before!!!

Games, given Anne Stevens doesn't even know how old she is I wouldn't bother asking her. But surely it would say on the 'Investors' section of GKN's website (assuming they've got one).

MEANWHILE - "so is the rodent that breaks into our henhouse every night."

Get yourself one or two of these:-

I usually prefer traps but the pesky blighters have ignored them so I've had to use bait traps, I must say they work well. Our horsey freinds behind us also have chickens. I love pretty much all four legged creatures (and those with two legs and wings) but I do draw the line with rodants haha.

Posted with the hope it's of interest and nothing whatsoever to do with general banter on this thread about wallets, ginormous cars, and all the other stuff which has been highly amusing to me since I don't get down the pub much these days haha.
