getting... on a serious note of course that sounds a good system... and objective.
But you may need a tie-break in that case.
But you are the judge!

It's gone midday, shouldn't we know by now who won ????

Edit :-
Just seen that it's 13:00 Hrs. not mid day (as I thought) also it will take the bean counters until 5pm to make the announcement, so I can get out in the forrest with my cannine freinds and still be back in time for the announcement.

Ohhh the excitement of it all hahaha

Sogoesit, I'm going to start with who called the correct outcome (bid succeeds or fails). Then look at who called prices closest.

The MRO and GKN prices each ranked (closest to the outcome) would be my system with the decider as who guesses the MRO win (as this is an MRO thread).
All subject to the usual bribes thereafter, of course!

(I have no idea what Minerve is wabbitting on about as he is filtered).

Assigned......if that stock has accepted the bid,it will have been assigned as accepting the bid and will be dealt in the market as having accepted that bid. That saves the risk of double counting.

People could lose their jobs over this and some of you treat it like a game of cards.

Sogoesit, so given that the competition was to name three things (1. win/lose? 2. MRO price 3. GKN price) what is the 'number' that you think it should be decided on?

What, as “objectively as you can”?
The winner is decided on a number; that’s it. Or are you saying that holders of “wallets”; have been bribing you or you are open to bribes?
;-)

Getting,
You are a decent fellow, I believe, one who has unfortunately fallen in with a ‘bad lot’.
I’ll take your advice.

Meanwhile, I do like many of your posts, but recently you do seem to be focussing on being critical or dismissive of others rather than offering your own opinions. I think you are at your best when you are offering what you yourself have called 'original thought'. And let's try to make it about something other than your wallet? Although I am grateful you offered a signed photo of it as a prize.

I have never used the term ‘outside the box,’ nor ‘blue sky thinking’ nor ‘elephant in the room.’ Horrible phrases!!!

brex,

Maybe you were thinking, to use one of your terms, 'outside the box'.

You can't put a 'probably' and a 'possibly', particularly at the same time, into a mathematical sum. The numbers you use are then meaningless, whether they add up to 30 or not.

Meanwhile. You obviously can’t add. I make it just over 30%.

brex,

I learnt my maths at school & at University.
Where did you get yours?

"probably" "5.76 + 3.8 + 1.2 + 20% possibly hedge, M&A" = > 30

Bloody hell!

Interesting maths.

Melrose as far as I can see probably have

5.76% declared a few days ago
3.8% Elliot
1.2% Aviva
20% possibly hedge, M&A, etc

So over 30%

Hopefully support from investors in both who side with Melrose
Possibly more GKN small shareholders

GS and BoA with 19% are the wild-cards

50% + 1 is quite possible.

It's my understanding that, though "retail" shareholders - you and me - may well be required to advise their nominee account platforms of their decision on acceptance by a specific time (like Minerve has stated), large institutional shareholders have greater flexibility right up to the closing date/time. That is simply because their holdings are not in nominee accounts.

But, as ever, I wait to be corrected.
