My broker required a decision by noon yesterday. So maybe the cut-off period for voting has already past. It is just a case of collating the information. Same sort of process for ex-dividends and record dates etc.. etc..

Meanwhile. Have you been on the magic mushrooms. Sensible contribution to a sensible question please.

Or can’t your abacus cope. Obviously the subject isn’t covered by your beginners guide.

I would like to help but the use of such big numbers, 1 million, 500 & 500K have me completely baffled.
Could you reduce them?

Does anyone know what happens with this scenario.

Investor A holds 1 million shares and has voted to support, say, Melrose.

It then sells say 500k to Investor B who hasn’t voted but again supports, Melrose.

What is the status of the 500k shares, and how would they be monitored?

Meanwhile, have you found your calculator? You may have left it inside that 'shares for beginners' book you bought recently? Can you give us some updated numbers?

Just reading the statement from the OAP Stevens:

"Melrose is asking shareholders to consider a set of last-minute undertakings which leave considerable uncertainty and do not adequately address the need for long-term shareholder value creation.

"If this is how Melrose behaves when it is bidding for GKN, how can it be trusted if it gets its hands on the wheel? The Melrose offer remains the low value, high risk option for shareholders."

The hypocrisy of this is unbelievable. Last minute? Like her plans to break up GKN? That were conjured up after the Melrose bid? Didn't Melrose approach the company and were rebuffed so had to go hostile?

This is like a lame American fox crying foul when a larger, more skilled British fox come and takes the chicken from the coup.

The sooner this ill-qualified, lame duck, CEO is out and her CFO with her, the better. They are spreading misinformation and deserve to fall on their swords.

How interesting to hear how much some of you have invested in MRO & GKN.

If I'd known you were only investing your week's pocket money, I wouldn't have bothered to chat with you.

Bobtail here

Melrose going up, lots of selling of GKN. Small holdings bailing out!!!

Also appears that existing Melrose shareholders like Blackrock are buying GKN at a discount to take advantage of the deal.

Anyone want to suggest the final score? Percentages please.

I don’t think Meanwhile has a calculator. An abacus perhaps, or even more up to date a slide rule.

It's probably next to the analysis you've been doing on those numbers that B+ sent you?

B+ - "I won’t mention my beautiful younger wife!!!"

haha - I forgot to mention that as well ;-)

Thanks for the link on those two letters (saved me trawling through all the RNS's)

Have to say that the MRO letter answered everything and I can't see how the GKN policy comes anywhere near addressing the ministers points. MRO have shown they are a BRITISH company who take their responsibilities seriously. I don't think GKN management have been so honest.

Oh well, two days to go, has been nice chatting to all of you (with the exception of one haha) good luck in your future investment endevours.

Quite a profile. Bit like mine except not old (in my own mind, that is). Location Gloucestershire, first only to Suffolk!!! Holding in Melrose, big enough to buy a car. None in GKN.

I won’t mention my beautiful younger wife!!!

gettingrichslow - "One of the things I find interesting about these forums is that we don't really know much about each other - age, gender, experience, career, geographic location etc. Even scale of our holdings."

I suppose this information could be in ones profile but I think that is dangerous haha. Still if it helps here's a few facts:-
age - old
gender - male (almost everyone on ADVFN is)
experience - lots (but not necessarily in investment haha)
career - too many to list here
location - Suffolk (there might be better places, but not many haha)
Scale of holdings - Tiny in GKN and not much bigger in MRO

After Thursday I might have a bigger holding in MRO which is fine, or I might find I own a tiny percentage of some American company which before January I had never heard of, not so fine (for me at least)

I note with interest the GKN share price climbing towards the 464p (inc dividend) based on Melrose 223p.

I see that both GS and BoA have good holdings in Melrose and large, totalling 19%, in GKN. Have they increased these holdings to “prop-up”; GKN?

Simon Peckham has provided more information on what Melrose would do with GKN.

Any opinions on how we stand today?

brex,

Just try to understand. Why would I want to analyse a set of meaningless numbers put forward by you, public domain or not?

Meanwhile. The numbers are in the public domain, just summarised by me. I thought you would be interested in commenting in the rapid (the last week) build up of GKN shares by GS and BoA, but if you aren’t up to it, so be it.

If you think they are not related to your investment in Melrose .....

brex,

Why would I want to analyse a set of numbers drawn up by you, or anybody else. This isn't a 'Management Mentoring course'.

The only numbers I need to analyse are those relating to my investment.
