You sound like my wife, trader465! She points at the peak of any share graph I'm looking at and says "I would have sold there".

Alan why did you allow the loss to grow to 50%?

If you lose 10% you’ll need to make 11%, if you lose 50% you need to make 100%

I think that's a strong result given its been one of the wettest periods on record. Nothing like rain to put the punters off.. Even if they're only walking from the car park!

I am a holder incidentally, and I'm losing 50% of my investment at the moment, but I don't feel inclined to sell at the moment.

A summary of the view from Investors' Chronicle:-
Perhaps the most encouraging feature of the results was the 170 basis point increase in the underlying pub operating margin to 12.3 per cent. Ongoing efficiency programmes are having the desired effect despite input inflation and wage growth. That’s welcome progress, but the overriding debt issue explains why the shares trade at a monumental discount to net assets. It will take more than a good run by the England football team to alleviate pressures on that front. Hold.

Duplication costs
Bit opaque but reads as they paid 2 CEO's at the same time - because they could and the BOD
chose to. (like every other business that has a handover for any roll)
but here they dumped £0.4m of cost , I guess beteween 10 Jan and 30th Mar !

So there was no operating need to have a handover and no operational gain during those 2+ months
effectively they are saying it was a waste of money and please ignore !

I guess its a bit damning of the previous CEO to say he had nothing to give to Justin in that 2 months
Question becomes did he have anything to give in the previous years ?

Remeasurement of retirement benefits... £-4.9m

Clearly no one needs to know that its going to cost £4.9m more to pay the directors senior managers
and other staff their pensions...

Its not as if the company ever made those committments , nothing to do with them.
Perhaps its better if shareholders just ignored that, they don't want to know how much
directors award themselves in pensions anyway , bless , dont't worry their heads with it.

Splendid results , backslapping and bonuses all round !

Ok , so the loss for the period increased by £11.4m (40%) but that's great right?

That is the :
"Total comprehensive expense for the period attributable to equity shareholders" £-39.9m
not the £-36.6m they didn't really want you to read , but which looks a bit better.

Of course they could say ....
just ignore the £16m they and Carlsberg had to write off because the brewing business is
not performing - like the loss never happened.

Except that it would have been written off over time anyway.
Or ignore the interest rate swap loss which is only there because they locked in long
term interest rates at a good time (good thing) but then needed to arrange the swap

Debt down ! Yeah, hi fives !
What can go wrong now ?

Finance cost UP , £4m (8%) , and that was up £2.6m on the last half year , you see as debt
falls finance cost rises....

All you have to do is close your eyes , ignore the results and believe the hype...
oh and look at the share chart upside down , that helps too.
