Too many boards reject perfectly reasonable offers so they can stay on the gravy train....

Its possible that the snubbing of Platinum's approach has put off would-be predators. You probably wouldn't want to go to the time and expense of all the due diligence etc if you know your bid is going to get turned down

Given that the net book value here is around £1 a share, is it not a bit odd that this isn't being snapped up for half price (say 50p a share) ?

The buyer would be getting pound coins for 50p each. They would be buying £600m of equity for £300m.

Before anyone starts bleating about the £1 billion of debt I ask you this. If someone offered you a house for £300k which was worth £1.6 million but you had to assume the £1 million mortgage would you do it ?

That's a market cap of £106m (PE was £1.05 bid), at the time of the offer there was only 64m shares so an offer of £67m mk cap.....it is post Carlsberg set up now but would be an equivalent 58% premium!.

Didn't these guys turn down a 100p offer a few months ago?

GYM Group, MARS, and a few others will benefit from the seasonal trade. All bodes well.

This morning's increase may be a delayed reaction to JPM turning from bear to abit of a bull, citing the value offer of Marstons, 2024 sporting fixtures and in their view people are being over concerned with the debt.

"It’s doubtful any institutional investors would look at a company with 1.6 billion debt and the financial crisis hitting mortgage holders"

'the biggest majority of their customers are struggling'...?

This is a myth. Most people are doing well, wages are at an all time high, millions of highly paid public sector workers save the cost of the commute so they can walk the dog, and we old investors make a shed load pushing money around and also get a fat interest rate on our savings.

Everyone is going on holidays, driving blingy cars so little wonder the better pubs are packed.

All of this excessive publicity given to the struggling bottom 20% in our society distorts the picture.
"Loadsamoney" as Harry Enfield used to say.

The boozers always bear the resulting lack of funds by the biggest majority of their customers struggling to pay monthly payments and the result is a lower revenue stream for Mars
