Am waiting to see the fallout from both Ireland and Wales exits from Rugby world cup

England progress offers a smattering of hope but will it be enough?

But equally expect all like minded leisure companies to be affected

Am increasingly tempted but spoilt for choice at moment

MAB remains my choice
Is my stomach ruling my head ? You bet it is

Lets see how it goes these next couple of weeks

Good luck

It could be said for a lot of UK companies...seen it all before when there is offer on the table and the BOD refuses to accept it you can bet your top dollar the share price starts to drift lower...

florenceorbis,

But it hasn't been "the past 2 to 3 years". MARS has been a serial underperformer for ever -

It didn't matter too much when it paid a good divi but investors have had the double-whammy of no divi and a slaughtered share price. As for being "vastly undervalued", well that's what the Board said when they turned down a bid in excess of £1/share not so long ago. And look where the share price is now! If it is undervalued, the issue for shareholders is, how do you extract that value? This Board has had plenty of time to demonstrate that and failed to do so, so either someone else should be given the chance or it should be sold.

Given that these are down around 60% in 20 months, and haven't paid a dividend since 2019, on what basis are the board determining whether they are creating sufficient returns for the owners of the business ?

Or maybe they aren't doing that in which case perhaps we need a new board ?

I note reports in today's ST that several funds (including Cerberus and Morgan Stanley Real Estate) are circling Stonegate, Britains biggest pub landlord which recently acquired ETI/Enterprise Inns among others. Surely somebody must be looking at MARS too? Whilst MARS is a more complex business - involving brewing, wholesaling and distribution as well as pub ownership - that side of the business could easily be offloaded to Carlsberg who already own half, leaving the pubs to the property guys. Let's hope, because this is going nowhere otherwise.

What does that tell you? They were more interested in their salaries and keeping a job than maximising shareholder value. Or they were incredibly stupid...probably a bit of both.

The rejected bids from Platinum Equity at 88p then 95p and finally 105p weren't too bad after all. ;-)

Personally, I prefer Adnams GhostShip - but as you say - that means nothing.

Beer is the third most popular drink overall - after drinking water and Tea.

More relevant, surely is the comparatively low score of Marston's itself - right up (ie down) there with Red Stripe, on 30%... and Pedigree even lower?

Mind you, I like Thwaites and Doombar myself, which also score badly.

But then I remind myself that it's not about what I prefer, but about the market as a whole.

A bit like share prices, really.
