evox,

Best of fortune to you.
I have NFDS on my watchlist. I have never looked at ICP before so will have a look. It looks like you have done very well with ECM, have you been holding it long? c2i

MARS has been listed amongst the ten top picks to benefit from the World Cup on a competitor's website. Let's hope it helps the share price as I could do with it being a little higher than where it is now.

I would have thought no booze below cost price in the supermarkets would have helped?

Does not look good to me.

Marstons, Greene King and Wetherspoons crashing.

We are in for a very rough time; Thankfully we have the Tories back in power 0-).

Results look pretty grim to me.

I'm losing patience. Looks like dead money for a long time.

Solid but not spectacular results especially as they cover the winter period. Here's to a long, hot, thirsty summer, starting this weekend.

Timbo

I would say that many of the Pubs are unloved at present with share price comparable to their NAV and lowish PEs cheap in relation to their average. (I do hold MARS and GNK). I would prefer a bit less gearing but you cannot have everything.

As long as the IT is not overgeared , as some discounts are caused by this , and they are large enough to be liquid I guess its OK but at present the discount on that residual may not be that great.

Some pubs , insurances , REITS , possibly some utiliies strike me as being value. I am hoping for a long hot summer to buy some of these assets at prices under their real value. Just like MARS.

I reckon that investment trusts (including Venture capital Trusts) which trade at monster discounts to their net assets are a fairly cautious place to stick your cash, if the market rises they go up, if sentiment improves they go up, if sentiment deteriorates further I think it will have little or no effect as some of them already trade at monster discounts.

I like companies such as Marstons and Green King, because they have a reasonable level of gearing (not too much, not too little), they are asset backed and they will pay me a big divi whilst I'm waiting for the value to be recognised

Where investment areas would you suggest are lower risk at present ?

timbo...market goes down and everything gets hit...the good the bad and the ugly...the non risk adverse are probably sitting on cash in hope of better entry points in equities...opportunity was given last Friday and no doubt some took advantage...but just when you think one is in profit the gains can evaporate over the coming days/weeks giving a false illusion...still a holder here but took some profits at 101.4 just as it started fall back from the recent highs of 105p...

With HMV the market thinks divi will have to be rebased...
