KBC Peel Hunt is holding off changing its earnings forecasts for brewing and pubs group Marston's ahead of the general election, but has hinted that upgrades could be on the way following Marston's trading update on Wednesday morning.
"Further progress on the new build programme, and consistent underlying trading, lay the base for next year's 11% forecast earnings growth, which compliments the 6% yield," KBC analyst Paul Hickman said.
The broker has a 'buy' recommendation on the shares with a price target of 120p.

Historical p/e 10-15.

Therefore at 10p share price 150p looks tops.

I like the chart.

Yes, good steady trading update and nice to see trade stabilising in the tenanted estate which has been a nightmare for brewers/pubco's these last few years, but just a couple of points arising from wskill's post 568 -

"far too cheap at under £1 should be closer to £2 in my book". EPS last year around 8p and current year's forecast around 11p. £2 would represent a historic PER of 25 and a 2010 projected PER of over 18 with not much growth anticipated (at least, by the analysts) in 2011. That's pretty hot for a sector which has averaged about 14 over the long term. If it returns to trend I can see 150-ish but 200 looks a bit hopeful IMHO.

"hopefully we can start to grow the dividend again in the near future." Well not in the near future. They have already said in their Rights Issue prospectus that they will "re-base" (i.e. 'cut' to you and me) the 2010 Interim divi and going forward are aiming for a divi 2x covered by eps. Analysts forecasts are for 5.86p in 2010 and no growth in 2011.

I hold.

Good RNS.
I can see these now heading towards the £1.20 someone mentioned. GNK have gradually nudged up, but I see MARS as a better bet at current share price

is that the one in aylesbury ? Whackford

Thats one that has been doing fantastic and a couple of others have been taking some silly money. I was at a meeting the other day and was told how well they have been doing since jans cold spell and they have decided to pull some of the offers out of the estate. Would only be doing that if sales and profit were stabilising. Will be a v good update brought back in ready and waiting ;-)

MHW - I agree with your opinion that we're likely to get a good trading update next Wednesday. One of the new pubs I know has been doing good business since opening last December - so if that's a guide I'm hopeful.
