Aside from the continual bid talk (Goldcorp, Crystallex (also in Venezuela), Goldfields, Barrick,...)

.. is the share price rise since March not partly due to the government's stance in Venezuela?

March 28 (Bloomberg)

Shares of Crystallex International Corp., which is developing Venezuela's biggest gold deposit, soared 98 cents, or 28 percent, to C$4.50. Gold Reserve Inc., added C$2.53, or 49 percent, to C$7.66, after it said in a release that it got the Venezuelan government's go-ahead to begin with construction of its Las Brisas gold and copper project.

Crystallex Chief Executive Officer Gordon Thompson said in a statement that Gold Reserve's receipt of the permit signals Venezuela is advancing mining projects. He said Crystallex is in the final stages of the approval process

ah, can't be Sardinia driving the price (disposed of)

Medoro Resources has foretold of its bold search for gold. Although based in Canada, the company has gold exploration and development operations in Venezuela (the wonderfully named Lo Increible gold property). In 2006 the company sold its exploration properties on the island of Sardinia and on the Italian mainland to Sargold Resource Corporation. That same year Medoro acquired the former Panwest Seas Corporation, which gave it ownership of the Lo Increible property.

As I see it:

mrl (now mrs) has its gold properties in Venezuela

but in 2003 it acquired Gold Mines of Sardinia, then being courted by Barrick Gold

in post 1913 (above) we see how cash-rich other players like goldcorp are, while goldfields hold a 10% stake in mrl

so that equals 3 players (Barrick, Goldcorp, Goldfields), who could all bid for mrl in order to re-kindle the Sardinia project? nia dyor

history of Sardinia fields:

What is Goldcorp Doing With All That Cash?

/...

While always difficult to second-guess M+A moves by the "big boys", the buyout profile that fits best in our view would be a junior miner with large reserves. We will stop short of naming names, but can imagine a shortlist of 5 to 6 companies spread over the world of mining that would fit the bill.

Scam!

This is the article referred to earlier -

Butterfield Advisors, whose cold-calling of shareholders in technology group TG21 Mudlark reported earlier this week, has made similar offers to pay an inflated price for shares in at least two other Aim companies.

A shareholder in Avocet Mining, a gold miner, told Mudlark that he was cold-called by Butterfield late last month and offered £10 each for his shares, a huge premium to the market price of 115½p.

The investor did not send Butterfield the details it requested and he heard no more after he said all transactions would have to go through his broker.

In the case of TG21, formerly Toad, an investor was offered a price 232 times the market price but he would have had to deposit a "bond" of £3,538.

A shareholder in Medoro Resources, another Aim-listed gold miner, told Mudlark yesterday that he had received multiple calls from Butterfield Advisors in the past few days.

Butterfield indicated that a buyer was willing to pay 500p for shares that have been trading at 27p. In the case of Medoro, Butterfield appears to be using an old shareholders' list since the caller referred to the company as Gold Mines of Sardinia, its name before the summer of 2004.

Butterfield, which gives an address in New York, is not registered with the Financial Services Authority. It has not responded to written questions from the FT.

I still have some of these from Goldmines of Sardinia days, and forgot about them as they slumped! Now they have come back to life with a jolt and we must be approaching a break-even point fairly soon? The other offspring,Chaco, was doing very well until the recent duster.

Also the Technical analysis gives a NICE W at 0.20p over 3 years (2004-2007)
this should make this stock AT LEAST trebble in the next 18 months

Although it is unknown, ounce the market gets hold of this darling, it will go to the moon

Also a price of gold over 1.000 USD will sustain the stock.

I think it is to buy and hold 2-3 years nicely.

good luck

CALCULATIONS

as per recent drilling confirming at least 350.000 ounces of gold down there

at 700 USD and 48 million shares issued

this gets 245.000.000 USD or 5 USD per share

However the inferred gold deposit is around 500.000 ounces.

with Gold at the following prices we get:

1000 USD 10 USD per share or 5 GBP per share

1500 USD 15 USD per share or 7.5 GBP per share

2000 USD 20 USD per share or 10 GBP per share
