Those selling here yesterday FWIW was into something like a 24-26 percent discount (very roughly estimated) - still around 23-24 percent (estimated of course) lols...

Our manager's strategy in terms of extreme portfolio concentration needs to be reconsidered imvho....the level of selling here suggests to me there is simply too much volatility for many/most PIs if we ever want to get any sort of sensible rating back - discount wise...nai/dyor etc

the dust that needs to settle is the level of volatility caused by a seemingly never ending press war on NVDA over the past month (alongside general market turbulence)- in the old days it used to be called a bear raid - having 36% in this one stock means we are way more effected than just about everyone else :)

Single most instructive video on Nvidia/AI boom I have seen in 2024 - picking apart much of the MSM misinformation with incisive fact based review of the data.

In summary - most of NVDA GPU sales are for replacement cycle in global data centres that need equipment refresh on a 4-5 year cycle alongside some new AI specific data centres - as our manager keeps saying we are in the picks and shovels place which should be seen as dull/low hype etc etc.

Amazon.com Inc., risking Wall Street’s displeasure, told investors that profits for now will take a back seat to heavy spending on artificial intelligence. The shares fell.

The company projected operating income for the current quarter ending in September will be $11.5 billion to $15 billion. Analysts, on average, were looking for $15.7 billion.

After focusing on cost-cutting during the past two years, Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy is spending in an effort to capitalize on the boom in generative AI, which can create text, video and images based on simple user prompts. Amazon has said the opportunity represents a “multibillion-dollar revenue run rate business.”

Yes, special dividend - I think 3 payments are planned this year.

Wisely, we do not own ARM and Qualcomm (of Intel that warned last night) showing how vital great stock selection is in this area - hoping our management keep on their toes.

They posted on twitter this week an enormous list of less profitable tech names who they plan to avoid due to poor profit margins to illustrate this point I think :)

Was yesterday's bounce back the greatest single day performance ever in the life of MNL?

Overall portfolio NAV up around estimated 7%, discount estimated back up around 19%. The winners of which there are many include:

NVDA - up 17%

Broadcom and Arista Networks - both up 14%

ASML and Micron - both up 9%

Cadence, AMD and Synopsys - up around 5-6%

We were handed on a plate almost everything the AI investor base were baying for in a single day - Powell nudging September rate cuts, Meta saying AI capex resulting in major benefits in ad sales (now in 2024)- countering investor angst on sufficient AI capex business case benefits, ASML being steered that draconian chip restritions mooted last month were being watered down, Analyst suggesting NVDA may exceed current estimates in August results announcements.

Hopefully we can claw back to MNL ATH now all the rubbish written in the press to deramp the AI theme has been countered on what seems to be all the main points that had caused the most amount of jitters :)

would hope 29% fall on NVDA is enough for now - probably scared punters away from MNL for good this level of "consolidation" as our manager calls it or volatility as I see it :)lets see what Meta and ARM report shorly which wiil either aid a recovery or a further step down ?nai etc

hopefully the bottom is in with MSFT, ANET and AMD all beating profit targets and tech futures on the rebound - MSFT confirm high level of ongoing capex AI to drive higher cloud sales in 2025 - bodes well for NVDAnai/dyor etc

Ahead of Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) upcoming 4Q earnings report, UBS analysts highlighted three main discussion points in a note Friday: Azure's potential upside from AI and core demand, capital expenditure trends, and the growth trajectory of Office 365.

The analysts maintained a Buy rating and $520 per share target on Microsoft, emphasizing that the company's involvement in AI is a major driver of its future growth.

"The read-through from the Google Cloud results was positive, as was our meeting with rival/partner CoreWeave last week. CoreWeave's revenue and backlog growth trajectory is outstanding and with Microsoft as a major customer, we view this as a positive for AI infra demand," UBS wrote.
