I am struggling to find support for your statement that Nvidia represents 32% of MNL?
The holding was 5.91%. A massive change.

The fund now holds 32 percent in Nvidia at 31/5. Oh my word - brave leadership!

A Majestic month for the Fund with a double-digit percentage Total Return. The key Technology event for the month was NVDA which yet again silenced it critics and sent the Cassandras scuttling to close their shorts. Shorting the Future => Pain. - from factsheet out today :)

More detail on exactly how AI eats up the software firms...

AI companies are leading a transition from Software-as-a-Service to Service-as-Software, turning the table on the very essence of SaaS. In the software business, a company may sell access to its platform or tool, but customers are still responsible for using that tool to achieve the desired outcome. In the services business, responsibility for achieving the desired outcome sits with the company selling the service. Instead of QuickBooks, you offer tax services—in this case, conducted by an AI accountant. The upside of this change is huge—a $4.6 trillion opportunity, since the global services market dwarfs the software market in size.

We are entering truly extraordinary and interesting times and I start to grasp why our manager is clinging on so hard to his 30% in Nvidia while these huge changes ripple through the economy...

CNBC’s Jim Cramer on Thursday told investors that enterprise software companies may not be as lucrative as they have been over the past few years as artificial intelligence technology gains traction.

Companies could be reevaluating their investment in enterprise software as they figure out how AI can change business operations, according to Cramer.

He noted that some enterprise software is designed for jobs that AI could make superfluous. Cramer added that many of these products follow a pay-per-user model, and sales could slow if companies let go of employees whose roles can be performed by AI.

“For those who’re selling software that dealt with the traditional mode, and traditional model pre-artificial intelligence, AI kind of feels increasingly like a coin toss,” he said. “It could be a bonanza if they can fit right into the new paradigm, but it could be the beginning of obsolescence if they can’t.”

Very similar message to the recent tweet from our manager - this raises the question whether we can continue to outperform for longer over the Nasdaq index as we do not include all the various software firms like salesforce and others most effected by AI changes that are included in the index but not in our fund - yet another reason for our discount to be lower and not higher...lols..

As a retired IFA I endorse your comment entirely, but there are always a few looneys like us who cannot pass up a bit of risk in their portfolios. My mantra was - everything in moderation, don't bet the farm on the Theme of the Decade, let alone the Flavour of the Month. So MLN can have a place even in medium risk portfolios, even as a tiny percentage.

A warning notice from our manager on his twitter page. He has clearly picked up on the recent drops for Salesforce and UIpath - both quite dramatic. Makes investing in IT stocks very precarious imvho if you do not get the subsector correct ...

"We have repeatedly stated that the sector MOST at risk from Ai is Software.

AM headline from Morgan Stanley:

“Big picture, CRM follows a string of Software disappointments including WDAY, INTU, PANW, PATH, TEAM, HUBS, FTNT, NET, ZI, FSLY, FRSH & SPT.”

We repeat: legacy Software will be eaten by Ai."

Genuine question - do UK investors actually want outperformance alpha in their portfolio.

There is so much excitement for example on SMT board for a trust that is well under the benchmark.

I speak to many IFAs and they tell me the priorities for their clients are firstly not to lose money, secondly to keep in line with inflation and if they can do a little better than that then all well and good.

The IFAs want to operate around risk models linked to suitability mainly using OEICs and ETFs and avoid ITs due to discount concerns.

In that world where is a place for this IT type of fund with the hot shot performance we have at the moment?

Not sure special dividend will have any impact as this one pays both an interim and final dividends already while all its peers pay nothing. Perhaps use it for buyback will be a better option.

Agreed - SMT discount 7% and PCT 9% rather a large difference. Manager has posted on his twitter blog that he hopes the special dividend will spark some investor interest and reduce the gap :)

Much better performance than all the peers like Smt, att and pct yet valued at a big discount to all of them.

The unaudited fully diluted net asset value per share (including income and excluding shares held in treasury) was 859.6p as at 28 May 2024.

Up 6% on the week, arguably one of the best weekly performance this year and discount is 19%.

After the recent blip, normal order is now restored back to where we were :)

If our manager can develop his PR and marketing skills to the same level as his portfolio management skills he can try to tease some money this way from the cohort of investors looking for specialist US and global tech exposure :)

Still a huge discount despite the big run up from 6 to 7 quid. Hardly changed much at all from my calculations - but let's see what the NAV tomorrow brings.

So you could argue this has a long way still to go we hope.

Truly heroic call to stick with NVDA at c.30% of the fund when it had shot up so far price wise and most managers would have taken a ton of profits and sold it right down.

He is a far braver man than me and has a lot more skin in the game with his holding....never thought my first purchase at sub 350 not that long ago would ever double in this short period!

Congratulations and well done to our Fund Manager, Mark Sheppard, and his team for breaking 700p. I’m sure this has much further to go and will soon smash the all time high for MNL.

Well done to all long term shareholders for sticking with Mark.

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) – Nvidia shares rose by 2.6% in pre-market trading after Elon Musk’s announcement about his xAI startup. In the latest round of fundraising for xAI, a significant portion of that amount is expected to be invested in Nvidia hardware.

Super close to the magic 1,100 dollars amrk for NVDA - quite some rise :)

dyor etc - agreed the dividend looks great and he says he hopes these types of actions may close the discount gap
