10/12/2010 16:32 | Hi hvs I like the French way of life - laid back. Family and friends are important. Visit 4/5 times a year - or more and hope to retire there. Think you're right about going higher - and i missed out. C'est la vie (encore!) | le frog
10/12/2010 11:15 | Hi froggy, Must be a nice life in France good for you. Looks like someone is mopping up. This can only go higher now. | hvs
09/12/2010 09:29 | Stock is still being sought, but without much success. I think they will have to raise the bid. There are a lot of punters and institutions well "under water" on MACF and any prospective new investor needs to dig a little deeper!!! | cs44
08/12/2010 17:42 | cs44 - 8 Dec'10 - 14:43 - 595 of 597 The pension deficit also puts a brake on any dividend increases... The dividend is still forecast to increase next year and the deficit shrank at the interims after measures were taken to eliminate it over 7 years. The recent surge in UK gilts yields and advances in stockmarkets bodes well for future pensions deficits calculations. From the finals: Like many companies, Macfarlane Group has a significant pension deficit, largely as a consequence of lower stock values and bond yields and longer life expectancy. At 31 December 2009 the gross pension deficit was GBP20.4 million (2008: GBP17.5 million). We have initiated a series of actions addressing future benefits, transfer enhancements and investment options, all of which will reduce the scheme deficit. It is the Board's intention that the balance of the deficit should be eliminated by a combination of these actions and affordable cash contributions over a seven-year period. Relative to dividend, the Board recognises the importance to shareholders of a regular and reliable dividend stream. In addition to the dividend of 0.5p per share paid in October 2009, it is the intention of the Board to pay a dividend of 1.0p per share payable in June 2010, subject to shareholder approval at the Annual General Meeting in May 2010. Given that profits grow as expected, it is our intention to rebuild reserves and cash cover as well as build dividend payments. | aleman
08/12/2010 17:00 | le frog, No aplogies needed. With a name like yours I thought we shaould all have a laugh. lol !!!!! | hvs
08/12/2010 16:55 | CS44 There are more increases in the pipeline I know but some prices are starting to ease. The only consolation is that the competition are faced with the same increases and don't necessarily have the buying power of Macfarlanes. I think the overall outlook is quite good (steady!). Action has been taken on the pension scheme - changes made - which should help the situation - slowly! Don't have any shares in them at the moment just watching. Think I missed the boat a bit in the last few weeks but will be back in a some stage. Good luck | le frog
08/12/2010 14:43 | le frog Well done!! Not many punters have made a profit on MACF for the past few years. Management have stabilised the position and returned the business to profitability, although not without a few mistaken decisions. The present difficulty is to try to recover margins from the price increases made by suppliers. The pension deficit also puts a brake on any dividend increases - without that albatross the share price would be double today's value. | cs44
08/12/2010 14:31 | Sorry HVS - thought it was a rivet, rivet ing note! Showing my age re the price! It was probably 15 years ago I guess (and they were a free allocation) | le frog

08/12/2010 14:12 | Thanks CS44. That makes sense. Been in and out of these a few times and always managed to make something on them. Mind you, I remember the days when they were over £2 share. Now if that happened again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think they are a good steady outfit and the figures look good in difficult times. Sure there are further challenges ahead | le frog
