If they call for another referendum and lose then they will no doubt request yet another. They will not be happy until they get the result they want. They are well used to this tactic, they have used it before on numerous other countrys. Well think again EU.we are not going to roll over.

Careful you seem to forget why we had the referendum in the first place. The main reason PM and parliament was losing control to Brussels governing UK and sure migration. People vote and people will get what they vote for. Today show how much more Brussels need UK, no the other way round.

k38, yes but 1) is remain dressed up as leave, and 2.) is LEAVE....and we've already had that vote in the referendum too.

With the chaos today and may's bungling, many have not noticed that something else very important happen today.
An early Christmas present.

The EU. court ruled that UK could return to the eu on exactly the same terms as they left.

8.10pm update: Britain WILL NOT revoke Article 50 article - despite earlier ECJ ruling

Britain's policy of not revoking its Article 50 Brexit notice has not been changed by a European Court of Justice ruling saying the government could do so without needing the consent of EU counterparts.

Brexit secretary Stephen Barclay told Parliament: "The judgement does not in any way change our policy.

"The government's firm and long held policy is that we will not revoke the Article 50 notice, this position has not changed."

Doesn't matter which side you're on this is an appalling mess which cannot be undone by another referendum, doesn't matter what they call it, People's Vote or General Election.

For me the divorce deal was good but I'm not Northern Irish. For me, if they can now find a form of words which make it acceptable that will do. I even think perhaps we should be grateful to those lawmakers who stood their ground and forced today's event.

As Parliament wont support May's deal, it appears that the only 2 choices left are: no Brexit or no Deal. If that were put back to the people it would be interesting to see which way those of a current Soft Brexiteer persuasion would sway. It does seem that solid Remainers and solid Leavers are entrenched in their views. So I wouldn't expect a lot of change there.

The article below from May (the month, not the PM) this year is very interesting and quite even handed. And well worth a read.

It concludes:

"In the 2016 referendum, the 17.4m Leave voters outnumbered the 16.1m Remain voters by 1.3m. Demography has already reduced that lead by more than half. At this rate, Remain will take the lead by late next year, even if not one person changes their mind. Add in the second thoughts now apparent in some groups who voted Leave two years ago, there is a real prospect that a fresh referendum would reverse the decision that the electorate took last time."

So it would still be a close thing! Faites vos jeux!
