JP Morgan is fighting a Kremlin-backed bank in the High Court amid a battle over more than $400m (£318m) of frozen Russian assets.The Wall Street giant, led by Jamie Dimon, has filed a legal claim against VTB Bank in a long-running dispute over frozen money trapped inside Russia's labyrinthine financial system.The legal action comes after VTB attempted to claw back almost $440m which had been frozen by JP Morgan following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, issuing a string of claims against the American bank through the Russian courts. A Russian judge found against JP Morgan earlier this year and an appeal over that case will now be heard on Dec 26 in Moscow. In London, the legal battle involves two additional claims filed by VTB against JP Morgan in Russian courts, alleging it is owed a further $155.8m.A court ordered the seizure of these funds from JPMorgan in October but the US bank has now obtained a preliminary injunction from the High Court to temporarily halt VTB's action.Despite the main legal battle taking place in Moscow, this new legal action is being heard in London because the contracts are governed by English law and both sides agree the disputes should be settled in the UK. ..Daily Telegraph

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russian troops liberated ten communities in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) over the week of December 14-20 in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Friday.

"Battlegroup South units liberated the settlements of Annovka, Vesyoly Gai, Yelizavetovka, Trudovoye and Uspenovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic as a result of decisive operations… Battlegroup Center units kept advancing deep into the enemy’s defenses and liberated the settlements of Novopustynka, Pushkino and Stariye Terny in the Donetsk People’s Republic… Battlegroup East units liberated the settlements of Zelenovka and Novy Komar in the Donetsk People’s Republic as a result of active operations," the ministry said in a statement.

"During the week, Battlegroup North units continued destroying Ukrainian armed formations on the territory of the Kursk Region. Combat aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery struck manpower and equipment of two armored brigades, a heavy mechanized brigade, seven mechanized brigades, three air assault brigades and two assault battalions of the Ukrainian army, a marine infantry brigade and five territorial defense brigades," the ministry said.

In the Kharkov direction, Battlegroup North units inflicted damage on formations of a mechanized brigade, a motorized infantry brigade and an air assault brigade of the Ukrainian army, two territorial defense brigades and a border guard detachment of Ukraine’s Border Guard Service, it said.

The Ukrainian army’s losses in those frontline areas over the past week totaled more than 2,675 personnel, nine tanks, 73 armored combat vehicles, including a US-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and a US-manufactured Stryker armored personnel carrier, 68 motor vehicles, two Croatian-made RAK-SA-12 multiple rocket launchers and 26 field artillery guns, it specified.

According to Bogdan Nikitchenko, the command sends "anyone available" to the Kursk Region

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. A machine gun unit of the Ukrainian armed forces shot civilians in Russia’s Kursk Region, Bogdan Nikitchenko, a captured Ukrainian soldier, said in a video provided to TASS by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"There was a machine gun platoon, roughly ten people. Disguised as Russian troops, they would enter villages and shoot the civilian population, residents, as well as soldiers — anyone they could. [I, too,] participated," he said.

According to Nikitchenko, the command sends "anyone available" to the Kursk Region. "Because they cannot maintain their positions at all. They sacrificed more than 500 of their people over the week," the prisoner of war (POW) added.

The captive stated that he had not witnessed the killing of Russian POWs personally but believes there were such incidents. "Since those who were brought into the territory were beaten with sticks, and then there were gunshots in the commander’s trench shelter, but a simple soldier like me could not enter it. No one saw them come out, and no one came for them," the POW recalled.
