25/6/2024 16:13 | Ukraine’s 2014 coup was CIA’s political mistake — Putin The Russian president noted that the US agency had achieved its goal of changing the government but failed to see what it would evolve into MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. The 2014 coup d’etat in Ukraine was orchestrated with the support of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and became the US agency’s political mistake, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Tucker Carlson published on the US journalist’s website. Putin said that during the unrest, which broke out in Kiev in the winter of 2014, the United States asked him: "calm Yanukovich down and we will calm the opposition. Let the situation unfold in the scenario of a political settlement." "We said, all right, agreed, let's do it this way. As the Americans requested, Yanukovich did use neither the armed forces nor the police. Yet the armed opposition committed a coup in Kiev," the Russian leader continued. The coup was orchestrated "with the backing of CIA, of course," he added. "Technically, they did everything right. They achieved their goal of changing the government," Putin said. "However, from political standpoint, it was a colossal mistake. Surely it was political leadership's miscalculation. They should have seen what it would evolve into." "I think one of the deputy secretaries of state said that they cost a large sum of money. Almost 5 billion," he added. "All this could have been done legally, without victims, without military action <…> We would have never considered to even lift the finger if it hadn't been for the bloody developments on Maidan. The political crisis that broke out in Ukraine in November 2013 later became known as Euromaidan. Large-scale opposition protests quickly turned into violent riots. The political crisis led to a state coup in Ukraine and the country’s partial disintegration in the winter of 2014. Residents of Crimea voted to secede from Ukraine and reunify with Russia in a referendum. Also, an armed conflict with Ukrainian nationalists broke out in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, prompting their inhabitants to eventually proclaim independence and join Russia after referendums in 2022. | ![]() stonedyou

25/6/2024 13:29 | The Minsk Agreement signed and sealed (never delivered) by Putin guaranteed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, by withdrawing all troops from the districts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, in exchange for the lifting of sanctions! Putin instead invaded Ukraine, held Germany in particular to ransom by quadrupling the price of gas and oil........Can't for one moment see why UK citizens on this board sitting comfortably, side with that despot! The USA is still the most successful capitalist democracy on earth, baring a Trump catastrophe! | gotnorolex
25/6/2024 13:27 | H1, 53 more countries have applied to join BRICS. They understand the US hegemonic objective and have voted with their sovereignty. A lot of pain heading back to the US too as no one is buying their treasuries...oh dear, Saudi Arabia is ditching the petro dollar and will also (maybe) join BRICS. Weaponising the dollar in the form of sanctions has worried many nations...a big mistake. Tricky, I wouldn't worry. The NATO alliance does not force nato members to take up arms against a nation that attacks a nato member, it's merely a strategic framework and has no legal obligation on other nato countries. | ![]() jordaggy
25/6/2024 12:48 | Similarities to the Cuban Missile crisis. First the sponsored coup in Cuba supported by Russia to install Castro. (The coup inUkraine in 2014 was western financed) The Russians then start to install short range missiles in Cuba. America, Kennedy, said no and blockaded Cuba. A scary time, luckily we had a great leader in Kennedy who struck s deal with Khrushchev, (apparently they got on well) and both worried about controlling their military. Kennedy agreed to remove hundreds of shorter range nukes from Turkey and Italy in exchagesfor Russia not putting short range nukes in Cuba. The important point is that America will never tolerate a situation where their strategic military safety close to USA borders was ever compromised. | ![]() careful
25/6/2024 12:45 | jordaggy......NATO's remit is to defend members ONLY if attacked by a non NATO country. Putin knows this so one has to ask why he doe's not want countries bordering Russia to be NATO members if his intention is only to be a peaceful neighbour? And why do all of the old Soviet bloc countries want to join NATO? Who do they see as a threat to their security by not being in NATO? | ![]() hardup1
25/6/2024 12:37 | Jordaggy call me thick but I can't see how it's in the best interests for global security to have a nato member who's border with Russia is over 1200 miles long? I don't know what the Americans are thinking... theyre either thick like me or fkin insane! | utrickytrees
25/6/2024 12:23 | H1, for how long? Putin thinks otherwise and knowing how the west reneges on agreements who can blame his scepticism. Face it, the US wants Russia destroyed, it always has and won't stop, Russia is facing an existential threat and will act accordingly. Some commentators say WWIII has already started...God help us. | ![]() jordaggy
25/6/2024 12:05 | Hardup, the US are easy to be critical of because they are so hypocritical. No point in being critical of Russia when they don't masquerade as something they ain't. | utrickytrees
25/6/2024 12:01 | Capital Economics say: The next government, which the polls ahead of the election on 4th July suggest will be a Labour one, will benefit from a combination of lower inflation, lower interest rates and faster economic growth than most are expecting. We think that a fall in CPI inflation from 2.0% in May to around 1.5% by the end of this year will prompt the Bank of England to cut interest rates from 5.25% to 3.00% next year, rather than to 4.00% as investors expect. And the boost to activity from lower inflation and interest rates explains why we are more optimistic than most by expecting the economy to grow by 1.0% this year and 1.5% in both 2025 and 2026. While tax revenues and public spending may both be a bit higher under a Labour government, the economy will probably tread a similar path over the next couple of years. | ![]() jordaggy
25/6/2024 11:45 | Reagan and Gorbachev made an agreement back in the day and it held for many years...'NATO not to move forward towards Moscow', putting nukes in Ukraine close to the Russian border is understandably never going to happen as far as Putin is concerned. However, twas always the plan...and after the deceit of the Minsk agreement on the part of Merkel, Russia will never trust the west again. You have to ask why the neocons hate Russia so much. I've met many Russians in Thailand, always polite, respectful, but a tad dull. | ![]() jordaggy
25/6/2024 11:31 | Tricky...395207. "Being anti US doesn't make someone pro Russia...they're both as bad as each other" But the focus of your bias narrative is all anti US, which some will interpret as also being sympathetic to/pro Russia. | ![]() hardup1 |
