25/3/2024 17:29 | Heres one to restore your faith in British engineering chaps. Today I drove across the Dubai peninsula (or whatever its called) towards Oman. Brand new road. 90km. Goodness knows knows how many 1.5km long tunnels. Perfect driving surface. Cost £1.8bn. Time taken to construct - 4 thats FOUR with an F - FOUR - years. HS2 to date £60bn. How long has it taken to get to Birmingham before being abandoned as a lost cause? Comments please | scruff1
25/3/2024 17:16 | LB, he highlights how modern PC protocols the West been so quick to embrace are infact communist ideologies. I thought his 10 flies example was thought provoking. | utrickytrees

25/3/2024 15:12 | John Galt The FirstWe have a failed Tory government who:-Allowed legal and illegal immigration to reach unsustainable levels putting pressure on public services.Introduced IR35 for small businesses.Increased the corporation tax rate from 19% to 25% (approx. 30% increase).Have frozen income tax thresholds thus bringing more people into the 40% tax bracket.Spent £407 billion of printed money on lockdowns, leading to stratospheric levels of government debt..Has increased the overall tax burden to the highest in seventy years. Is determined to complete HS2 despite a 20% drop in rail usage. Is determined to achieve the eye wateringly expensive goal of Net Zero.(Despite the likes of China, India and Indonesia carrying as normal + many other countries). We then have a Labour party who will:-Allow open borders for all immigration.Introduc | xxxxxy
25/3/2024 15:03 | Utrick Hence my comment "IF UK expats are taxed in similar way to US counterparts would that be acceptable to YOU for them to maintain their entitlements" US expats are taxed at the same rates(taking into account offsets in country they are currently working/residing") as if they were resident in US. ie They still PAY State and Federal tax AT THEIR USUAL RATES but the tax they pay in the country they reside/work in is deducted from such in a final calculation. I'm also pretty sure that most expats dont pay their Class 3 fyi especially those who have no intention of returning.. | geckotheglorious
25/3/2024 13:45 | Utrick You seem determined to avoid answering the question IF UK expats are taxed in similar way to US counterparts would that be acceptable to YOU for them to maintain their entitlements. Ultimately though the welfare state was meant for Brits - the pension system for Brits. We now have far too many poncing off the state and UK expats are the least of our worries. For starters many come back to UK whilst living overseas to visit relatives/attend events and spend, spend, spend. Utrickytrees Post 393807 Why should UK residents paying direct & indirect taxes all their lives subsidise basic state pensions for Johnny come lately spivs who've contributed FA? Except many havent contributed FA but have paid over the 10,20, 30 years of their lifetime overseas. Theyve paid far more than those Illegals getting off the boat who get free housing, NHS, Dentists, and spending money Personally I think it's time to abolish the Welfare State and bring in a new system. Anyone not indigenous British who hasnt paid into the pot for 20-30 years should have zero entitlements. | geckotheglorious
25/3/2024 13:36 | Why should UK residents paying direct & indirect taxes all their lives subsidise basic state pensions for Johnny come lately spivs who've contributed FA? FO overseas by all means....I'll even wave you off at the airport but we can't afford to pay people £12.5k pa for 20yrs for a 30k total contribution over 40yrs. We can't afford it. | utrickytrees
25/3/2024 13:19 | James Lindsay says in that link I posted earlier he has the most grave concerns for the UK of all European nations because of immigration and our benefits system. Excluding benefits for glib EX pats many of whom are paying much lower rates of tax than workers in the UK would be a great place to start. | utrickytrees
25/3/2024 13:17 | So taxing British Expats as the US does wouldnt be acceptable to you? So lets discourage working overseas - were short of housing as it is! Are you sure you've thought this through? | geckotheglorious
25/3/2024 12:07 | many thanks I'll have a good watch of it. | mr.elbee

25/3/2024 08:16 | Train drivers at Avanti West Coast will see their fee for an overtime shift increase to £600 following a deal between the company and union Aslef. Avanti said it hoped offering more attractive terms to its drivers to work extra shifts would make its services "more reliable and resilient". Bonkers, train fares ridiculous. . | mikemichael2
25/3/2024 08:07 | WOW, that was close, boat people crossing sorted, gov telling them its not safe, so all crossings on hold. Great news sport. | mikemichael2 |
