Thanks Jacko, I'll take a look. :)

I'm a bit like you. I read chapters and am back and forth between books.

Minnie, I will no doubt get a book or two that I haven't yet read for a Xmas present from one of the family, I have a bookshelf in my study with so many.

I often re-read books I have, not so much whole books but chapters I mark as good.

One good book imo that I think you would enjoy is 'Harrimans Book of Investing Rules', if you like reading up on successful investors, you will enjoy Harrimans, I have the 2007 publication, there is an updated one.

Good reading.

"M2 Dominion, the making of the Westwrn mind By Tom Holland."

Interesting choice. Just read the synopsis.

Probably one that my daughter or GF would be interested in reading. What put you onto that one?

I found it amazing when the French had roadside wine stations similar to our petrol stations: you'd turn up with a load of empty litre bottles and fill them up. The cost was between about 1.80 - 2.20 francs a litre. The wine was perfectly acceptable for everyday consumption.

Also in those days you might go to a relais routier, buy a liter of wine for lunch and think nothing of leaving much of it untouched. You'd also hardly see a French car that wasn't banged up from numerous encounters when the drivers had had a couple.

Article in todays Telegraph suggests that the French could benefit from no deal.
Fish just an excuse to veto.

Many such as Redwood and Farage on the UK side would like no deal.
We often forget that some in the EU. particularly France would (secretly) welcome no deal.
I say secretly welcome no deal because it would hurt Germany who would be furious with the French.

They have been waffling for 4 years now and still unable to solve the same old differences.

Things look grim, markets will take a hit on Monday.

Nothing wrong with the Europeans, I've stayed and travelled all over and always found the people to be kind and very sociable. I particularly like Italy, their food and life style, however quite shocked at the poverty in parts of the South.

It seems the people that govern cause most of the trouble, here and there.

Hope I can go skiing in March, will just have to wait and see.

lef - nice story. The French people have very different values indeed. You have to live there to fully understand; good family and good food etc. Small, sometimes old cars. Very different to the UK. When I moved back to the UK as an Exec in a big group I arrived in an immaculate but very old car. My new team were very amused and reminded me several years later when I had a series of Jaguars. Every place where I have worked has very different priorities. All have their charm in their own ways. Some people adapt, others don't.

Certainly am Minnie. Ever Since I was a kid. When I first started going to Old Trafford it was equivalent to 12 1/2 p. One of those old circulating metal turnstiles and they pushed a trolley along the touchline at half time selling pies and cups of tea. Georgie Best, Sir Bobby and King Dennis and Sir Matt running the show. Great days. Will let you know what he thinks of Jose

Yer, but....
At least them Froggies won't be able to catch "our" fish....
The Fish that the Brits no longer have a fleet to catch it with, a market to sell it to, or a population that wants to buy it.
Liz Truss, the trade secretary, has refused to allow existing trade terms to continue until the row can be settled, despite warnings of tens of thousands of “devastating” job losses in Ghana.
People shopping this weekend will have been buying bananas from Ghana, something the UK has promoted through the Fairtrade movement.
If no temporary terms are agreed, Ghana – which exported more than 45,000 tonnes of bananas to the UK last year, employing 4,000 people – will have to pay punishing new tariffs of £95 for every 1,000kg.
Levies would soar by 20 per cent on canned tuna, a sector where the UK takes around 40 per cent of exports, and also rise on cocoa paste (up 4.5 per cent) and cocoa butter (up 2.5 per cent).
The social impact of plantation closures on communities around the plantations will be devastating, besides jobs, plantations also provide most social infrastructure such as road, bridges, electricity, potable water, schools, education scholarships and medical services.
Ms Truss has insisted Ghana must agree to roll over the EU agreement, telling MPs last month: “There should be no block on Ghana being able to get tariff-free, quota-free access to the UK.”

Only about a month to go...
then you won't have to keep off the grass and you can put your wheely bin out any day of the week you choose!

Yes, 'Berkshire Hathaway Letters to Shareholders' is a invaluable read for a serious investor in equities - as is his partnership letters from his earlier career.

Have you any book lined-up for Christmas then Jacko?

If a deal is reached by Monday, the Prime Minister must start to sell the agreement, and any awkward compromises it contains, to parliament. Eurosceptic Tory backbenchers are likely to demand sufficient time to digest its terms, seek independent legal advice, and scrutinise it in parliament. Many European Research Group MPs felt they had been "bounced" into passing the Withdrawal Agreement last year with too little time to debate it in the Commons.Expect to hear clamouring from Nicola Sturgeon and Mark Drakeford, as the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly demand a say on the deal, a proposal Boris Johnson has dismissed.Sir Keir Starmer must decide if and how to whip Labour on the deal, and whether rebels will be forced to resign, amid a split in his shadow cabinet. The Prime Minister and Ms von der Leyen will also need to sell the agreement to EU leaders before the Thursday summit.Any deal must be translated into all the languages of the bloc's 27 member states. The vast majority has already been done; several days would be needed to complete the parts still under discussion.... Daily Telegraph

"Juan Mata - Suddenly a Footballer"

Are you a Man U fan then scruff1?

It will be interesting to read what he thinks of Mourinho.

Mourinho stayed in a Belgian hotel (Grand Hôtel in Waterloo) at the same time as my GF and I - many moons ago. He came over with Porto for a CL game and lost. It was funny watching them all come back from the game as we sat in the bar. All looked right miserable. LOL
