24/10/2020 20:52 | Dont worry 5xy, if the scores are adjusted on a per capita basis France would have to win 420 - 13 just to get a draw! Frogs getting owned by the minnows. | utrickytrees

24/10/2020 20:39 | Ann Robinson24 Oct 2020 12:46PMAs an intelligent man Mr Macron must realise that no deal means no fish for French fisherman. Surely some fish are better than no fish. He has to choose between being a statesman or a politician.Stefan Reichlin24 Oct 2020 12:59PM@Ann RobinsonI don't believe it that way. The brexit would be a good opportunity to handle the fishing with the help of the EU. Fishermen are rather low-paid jobs. The financial industry in Paris would rather benefit from a hard brexit. The UK may soon be able to offer fishing at a lower price. Since 2015 the pound has already lost 25%. In addition to the currency advantage, fishing in the UK could be subsidized by the state. This cannot be ruled out due to the emotional nature of the topic.Macron will therefore weigh up between jobs on the coast (which he could lose anyway) and potentially new jobs in Paris.Philip Powell24 Oct 2020 4:56PM@Stefan Reichlin @Ann Robinson "Since 2015 the pound has already lost 25%"On that point. The pound has been lagging ever since the leave vote, that's traders views mainly. This has one side effect mostly missed, which is to shore up the against the £. Since the Eurozone is a basket case I expect to see the Euro dive once the market wakes up to the reality of the EU minus the UK. I'm confident we will see a shift back towards 1.40 - 1.50 when that happens.Geoffrey Coles24 Oct 2020 1:08PMMacron is of course a flounder!... Can't get worked up about Welsh game. Gone stale somehow. Perhaps impatient to move forward, say Nov 15. To the Future. More exciting. | ![]() xxxxxy

24/10/2020 20:11 | (cont) It is a pity that Andy Burnham’s spectacular campaign against the Government came down in the end to a rather squalid haggle about a (relatively speaking) small amount of money when there was a more interesting argument to be had over the suggestion by Sir Richard Leese, the leader of Manchester City Council, in favour of simply protecting the high-risk population. I would bet that at a fraction of the cost that the Treasury is spending to support zombie businesses, a full service of care, and even alternative accommodation, could be offered to those who are in real danger. If younger family members wish to care for them, special provision could be made for them too. | ![]() jl5006

24/10/2020 20:02 | Janet Daley extract from Tele Sir Patrick Vallance, who has until now been an avowed purveyor of the official Government doctrine that finding a vaccine will be the ultimate solution to the problem of Covid, made a statement to a Commons committee which blew that idea out of the water. Appearing before the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy, the Chief Scientific Officer asserted that the notion “of eliminating Covid is not right”. Even if a vaccine was available by the spring, it “would not wipe out the virus” which would, in fact, become endemic in Britain. We will simply have to live with this disease, he said, and learn to manage it in the best possible way. | ![]() jl5006 |
