One of the reasons we are rich country is because have been the World's leading financial centre for centuries.

I do hope they strike a Brexit deal similar to the one that currently exists on finance.
The ultimate quid quo pro.

'you can catch our fish..we look after your money'.
..done, a tiny earner versus a huge one.

Boris is not that stupid, he will do a deal.Sad for the fish lobby.

Thanks for not providing the stats.

So we don't know how successful Trump has been in repatriating jobs. My opinion is: not very successful.

You were saying Trump was getting things done:

What else has he done?

Did you notice the recent offer by the Chinese to build HS2 at half the cost and half the timescale.

They really know how to do these things and have a track record of delivering.

We know our own construction companies will be years late at billions over budget.

We tell them to go away, but for how much longer can we retain a much higher standard of living than the Chinese or Indians?

'rather pay more for quality than less for dross from China.'
I think the problem is more serious than that.

'rather pay less for quality from China than more for dross from elsewhere'.

That is the heart of the problem.
We are being undercut by lower paid hard working Chinese who produce top quality goods.

There is no 'level plying field' on workers rights, the environment, subsidies in China so we cannot compete.
(The basis of our current argument with the EU.)

Garden Of England5 Oct 2020 7:59AMWho hasn't had a bout of cold or flu which has after effects that linger for quite a while? In which case why would COVID-19 be any different for some people? The other factor to consider is that of mental health. Most people will have had a reduction in their social interactions, which given that humans are social animals will have had an impact on mental health. This in turn will impact physical well-being.Whilst I don't doubt COVID-19 may have after effects has anyone considered the contribution of the long lockdowns to people's physical and mental well-being? Not to mention the effect of being bombarded with COVID-19 news.

....but he won't have people quaking in their boots.

no I don't suppose he will grahamite. Can't see Putin, Kim, and the fanatics in the Middle East being frightened of him either.

Personally feel safer with a leader who the RoW not only know but believe is prepared to press the button. Nuclear deterrent has worked well, so well it takes a pandemic to keep the numbers down now.
