Not4EU, London , Sunday, October 04, 2020, 15:02:It is too late for a proper deal to be done & dusted (ratified) AND all of the relevant prep for the country & businesses to be rolled out and understood by 31st December, a mere 12 and a half weeks away UNLESS the intention is 'no real change' & a sellout, & faux independence, is coming. Are the EU really going to change tack from the last 4+ yrs in the next 11 days? What about the other important areas, like Defence, Security etc on which there is silence on our side. We're already hearing of talks stretching into next month. Is the intention to rush through another dog's dinner of a Treaty without examination or question?_By all means, work on a Canada+++ agreement and the 7 major & 11 minor chapters needing work, but the message MUST be clear. They have missed the boat in terms of a deal wef 1st January and we WILL be defaulting to WTO from that date. The teams will continue to negotiate an agreement for implementation sometime after that date. However, if significant progress is made by 1st December, indicating that it might be fully ratified in the next 6 months, we will consider allowing EU goods in on an 'as is' basis if reciprocated, for the short intervening period except that no 'membership' type fees of any type would be payable and tariffs and duties default to the UK/EU as relevant. This is covered by section 24 of WTO & would assist both sides. Failing that, WTO rules will be applicable until such time as a Trade Agreement can be completed.

Revealed: Taxpayers foot £55million bill for lawyer blocking deportation flights of Channel migrants

•Duncan Lewis Solicitors legal aid work covers many areas including immigration

•Staff have been to Calais and offered support to refugees hoping to reach Britain

•It has forged a close relationship with charities that work among camps in France

A law firm whose immigration solicitors have prevented Channel migrants from being returned to France has pocketed £55 million in legal aid from the British taxpayer in just three years.

The staggering bonanza for Duncan Lewis Solicitors, whose legal aid work covers many areas of law including immigration, is revealed in figures obtained by The Mail on Sunday.

We can also reveal that the company's staff have travelled to Calais and offered support to refugees hoping to reach Britain.

Duncan Lewis Solicitors – run by entrepreneur Amarpal Singh Gupta, who has been dubbed 'Britain's legal aid king' – has forged a close relationship with charities that work among refugee camps on the French coast.

Staff have also boasted of mixing with senior Labour Party figures, including Deputy Leader Angela Rayner and Shadow Justice Secretary David Lammy.

Duncan Lewis has been involved in litigation that has frustrated efforts by the Home Office to return asylum seekers who crossed the Channel on dinghies to France.

Last week, just one migrant was removed on a £100,000 charter flight when last-minute court action by immigration and human rights lawyers to lodge appeals meant 29 other removals were blocked.

While there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing, Duncan Lewis has earned a fortune from the taxpayer by representing clients who include an HIV-positive rapist called Victor Nkomo who attacked a woman in Britain.

Business has boomed to such a degree that Mr Gupta, 47, who set up the firm in 1998, knocked down his existing luxury home in North London and built a £2 million five-bedroom property in its place.

h/t to mro on the JTC thread for spotting this:

Point out to them that Bill Gates says one minute that the planet is hugely overpopulated (and the next, wants to vaccinate to save lives) and they won’t see the dissonance.

Isn’t it rather odd that those leaders who have rarely if ever shown any genuine interest in the common people seem happy to chuck away trillions in gdp allegedly to protect us from a virus that kills just 64 people in 100,000?

Yes – it’s one of many things that don’t make sense

Sydney Ashurst , Sunday, October 04, 2020, 09:41:D C B's opening line says it all:The Germans can't allow a "no deal" to take placeThe presidency of the Council of the European Union is responsible for the functioning of the Council of the European Union, the upper house of the EU legislature. It rotates among the member states of the EU every six months. The presidency is not an individual, but rather the position is held by a national government. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the "president of the European Union". The presidency's function is to chair meetings of the Council, determine its agendas, set a work programme and facilitate dialogue both at Council meetings and with other EU institutions. The presidency is currently, as of July 2020, held by Germany. You could say Chancellor Merkel is in charge.Selling cars is more important than catching fish. Germany breaks the level playing field rules regularly.

Bentoutofshape , Sunday, October 04, 2020, 08:45:Very informative as usual.Let's hope DCB is correct and super Canada will be the end point. Will the EU be able to lock it's Machiavellian anti competitive neo Marxist ideology into a box labeled common sense? I'm not holding my breath. One thing is certain, if Boris and the Tory's sell us out again they are finished as a political force and i fear democracy will suffer a fatal blow, many people will never vote again.... what's the point.

What the 'No Deal' noise has provided since 2016 is an opportunity of a lifetime to gain from GBP decline. The wealthy Brexiteers have now decided to leave.

Boris Johnson and Ursula von der Leyen have approved a further month of Brexit negotiations after agreeing that enough progress has been made to justify a last push to reach a deal on trade and security.

For the intellectually challenged on here - if 'No Deal' was the option of choice why would there still be a push for a deal after all these years? The answer is, apart from a handful of posters, a No Deal has never been a preferred choice.

The leering Biden and his cohort of haters has been despicable throughout this.

This is rubbish and I'm surprised you saw fit to reproduce it. Biden's conduct has been proper and gentlemanly in the hour of Trump's misfortune.
