US doctors claim that Trump's controversial hydroxychloroquine drug DOES help 91% of coronavirus patients and argue we should not wait for 'controlled trials'

•The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons wrote a letter to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey urging wider use of hydroxychloroquine to treat covid

•They claim that data on 2,333 coronavirus patients reveals the drug helped 91% of patients recover

•Their data is mostly taken from observations of various doctors, many of whom - including Dr Oz - report treating only one or two patients

•Dr Anthony Fauci has advised caution in using hydroxychloroquine until clinical trials provide more data

•FDA issued a warning against using hydroxychloroquine outside hospitals due to its potential to cause heart arrhythmias in some patients

•Hydroxychloroquine has shown promise in labs and anecdotal reports, but a VA study found more patients treated with it died than those given standard care

•AAPS dismisses these results, arguing the veterans involved were very sick and their outcomes were not representative

•Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

"The top 10 killers in the UK"Comparison of usual causes of death - and the Coronavirus?© Brexit Facts4EU.Org - full-size clickable version is belowTomorrow we will be bringing readers a shocking report about the EU. Today we present another simple chart which attempts to give some more context to the Coronavirus crisis. In our fifth year readers still come to us for perspectives on Brexit. Our articles continue to be backed by reliable, official facts, presented in a punchy and accessible way. We remain the most prolific publisher of Brexit facts in the world. For over two months we have also published our research in the same way on the Coronavirus crisis, as this is the topic which has dominated the public discourse in the United Kingdom and across the European Union.BREXIT FACTS4EU.ORG SUMMARYThe top 10 killers in England and Wales (and in the UK as a whole)Total deaths in 2018 in England and Wales were 541,589The top three killers each year are cancer, dementia/alzheimers, and heart disease - totalling 271,830 deaths in 201819,093 deaths have so far been linked to Coronavirus in 2020, although cause of death is not certain in all (see below)That's currently 7% of the expected total of deaths from all causes, although of course this will end up being higherFirst academic study on increased cancer deaths due to focus on Coronavirus suggests nearly 20,000 extra will die this year?© Brexit Facts4EU.Org - click to enlargeWhat is included in these figures? The figures for our chart above all come from the ONS and were released yesterday, 28 April 2020. The deaths for England and Wales include deaths in hospitals, care homes, at home, and anywhere else. They are correct up to week ending 17 April. There were 19,093 deaths in England and Wales where the words "COVID-19" appeared on the death certificate. It is important to stress that there is considerable uncertainty around these figures. Here is what the ONS says:"A doctor can certify the involvement of COVID-19 based on symptoms and clinical findings – a positive test result is not required.""The numbers of deaths involving COVID-19: that is, where COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19 was mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, including in combination with other health conditions. If a death certificate mentions COVID-19 it will not always be the main cause of death, but may be a contributory factor."The Office for National Statistics, 28 Apr 2020OBSERVATIONSWe hope some further perspective on the Coronavirus crisis has been useful for readers.[ Sources: Office for National Statistics ] Politicians and journalists can contact us for details, as ever.Brexit Facts4EU.Org, Wed 29 Apr 2020

From the media...

Priti Patel has reportedly been cleared of bullying members of staff after an official investigation.

The investigation, ordered by Boris Johnson, found "no evidence" to support claims the Home Secretary had bullied staff at the Home Office, Department for Work and Pensions and Department for International Trade, the Telegraph reports.

The report, carried out by the Cabinet Secretary Sir Mark Sedwill and reportedly completed within the last week, is understood to have been handed to the Prime Minister on his return to Downing Street on Monday after his recovery from coronavirus.

"They have looked at all the claims and found nothing,” said a Whitehall source told the newspaper.

"They trawled through lots of material but found no evidence."

The UK as a leading advocate of Free Trade worldwideBy JOHNREDWOOD | Published: APRIL 29, 2020The Minister of State for Trade has  told us that the UK has now taken her place as a full WTO member and is making an important contribution to the world trade discussions. Secretary of State Truss made the first UK Ministerial speech there since 1972 earlier this year. The Department for International Trade is  now  planning trade talks with the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. These will be in parallel with the PM's negotiations through Mr Frost with the EU. The US Trade Representative has made a recent visit to London, and the US is keen to make rapid progress. Since 2008 our trade with the rest of the world has been bigger than our trade with the EU and growing faster, despite the absence of Free Trade Agreements with most of it.Trade talks with the US were scheduled to take place face to face in April, but these are having to be transferred to audio visual conferences owing to anti virus controls. I want the UK to respond positively to the US wish to press on with them quickly. In discussions with the EU State aid issues can  be best handled by the UK having a strong competition policy of its own whilst accepting that the EU regime is sufficient on the continent, so each party can trust the other's system. The UK should aim for lower tariffs than the EU common external tariff. We should  encourage cheaper food where we cannot grow the products for ourselves.  We should set our own high standards for food quality, animal welfare  and hygiene, and aim for mutual recognition of each other's standards with counter parties in Free Trade Agreements. There is no  need to charge any tariff on imported components needed for Uk manufacture. The US/UK Agreement could become a template for other deals worldwide by both the USA and the UK.
